Homeless vet finds, returns Columbine shooting survivor’s championship football ring

A survivor of the Columbine High School shooting lost a treasured keepsake years ago.

It was the ring he earned when the school’s football team went on to win the state title the season immediately after so many of their classmates and a teacher were killed. The two gunman killed 13 people before ending their own lives.

Evan Todd, who was wounded in the April 1999 shootings, lost the ring while on a speaking tour in California. He’s 31years old now. He’s been reunited with that treasured ring.

Last month, 60-year-old Bobby Smith called Todd to say he found the ring in a creek in San Luis Obispo, California, while hunting for rocks and arrowheads. He saw Todd’s name on the ring and contacted the school.

He was even offered $2,000 for the ring and he certainly could’ve used the cash. But, he “decided to do the right thing,” as he put it.

Smith is a veteran who was living in a homeless shelter.

His good deed has changed both of their lives, thanks in part to the response on a GoFundMe page Evan Todd established for Bobby Smith.

Watch Jeremy Hubbard’s video report above for the rest of the story.
