It's very difficult to stop mass shootings like this, since weapon procurement usually isn't deterred by the typical background checks or waiting periods.

I also wonder if this was something they did as disgruntled people, or if it had ties to terrorist activity?

I also wonder what would happen if this took place in a state like Texas, or one of the other more armed states in the country? Everyone thats touting open carry and looser concealed weapons laws makes me think that, eventually, there would be a return of fire at one of these shootings.

This is a brief summary of what its on the news:

The number of wounded people rise to 21, included 2 officers. The number of people killed is still at 14.

Malik was pakistani but lived in Saudi Arabia before coming to the US with her husband.

Police found 12 pipe bombs, bomb making materials and 5,000+ rounds of ammo at suspects home.

Farook and Malik didn't have criminal records. They bought all guns legally and had 1,600+ rounds of ammo with them. 2 guns were not bought by him.

Farook was apparently radicalized but not on any list. He could communicated with people under investigation for terrorism. But police didn't announce terrorism to be the motive.

He worked for 5 years in the center they attacked. There was a holiday party when an argument started. People were about to take a group photo when Farook leaved the room apparently very angry. He returned about half an hour later to shoot at people.

It seems like they were extremely prepared for an attack. Was this attack, the one they planned?

What could have made him so angry? If they planned this specific area at that specific time, would you really go to a work party? Seems like he might have changed future plans for some reason. However, I don't think an arguement would be enough to change his plans.

If they had a stockpile of ammo and pipe bombs at home, why didn't they bring them? Were they planning a larger attack, elsewhere? I think I read somewhere that they did bring some explosives but failed to explode. It could be that they "overstocked" on their weapons. Seems unlikely. Not sure.

This attack was like a punitive expedition. They came in, opened fire and fled.
Like you said, it was well planned.

If they planned something bigger after, maybe that was just a "warm up". If they were able to attack a place full of people they knew it could be easier to attack strangers after?

The motive is still a mystery. If it was a religious one, why attend the xmas party before attack? They could start the first time they entered the center. Maybe Farook had a personal reason to target the center. I also wonder what about the argument was.

sorry, i don't really add anything new with this post...

Watching the whole thing live was quite freaky. Hearing the frantic radio calls of the police officers while gunshots and sirens ringing in the background.

Is it a joke??

on CNN right now: "Landlord invites media into killers' home" This is surrealist. They are ruining the scene!

He apparently pledged allegiance to ISIS right before the attack

She seemed to have had a strong role. That's really unusual, especially for a woman in an islamist context. I wonder if Farook wanted to kill before he met her. He comes from a family where violence reigned but never had criminal records.

Maybe Malik was a recruiter and detected Farook's weaknesses? Or they were two crazy people who decided to join a terrorist organisation?

Also, where are Farook's mother and the baby? They lived all together so the mother probably knew about the bomb lab in the garage.

Some good points [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

The argument was described like this:
Thalasinos said to Farook that he “doesn’t agree that Islam is not a peaceful religion.” Farook replied that Americans don’t understand Islam.
He left very angry
What happened then?
Probably went home and talked to his wife
Maybe Malik persuaded him (or vise versa) that "now is the time to attack" after long preparation for one...
I wonder who was in charge of the situation. Who had the final word? You don't usually have a male/female combination like this.
(It'll be like Cullen's E/D all over again if we're not careful about assumptions at this point!)

Interestingly though, a coworker said he wasn't the same after living in Saudi Arabia. Even they thought Malik was the original terrorist (recruiting him?).

However, David Chelsea said Malik was too small for the semi-automatic assault rifle used, together with the weight of a protective vest and ammunition.
He pointed out that Malik herself was lightweight and claimed she did not take part in the killing.

I disagree with this and he's only saying it to say some things don't add up. Still, if she was powerful enough to do all that stuff, who knows?

ISIS uses women more and more often because they're in some cases more radical and they're less suspicious than men so they could easier carry out a terror attack. And at the psychological level women have very strong influence on men so this could be the same in that case. At the press conference the attorney for the family said that is no evidence that these perpetrators were connected with any terrorist organization lol!
