| The first Matrix movie was released March 31st, 1999.
Columbine was the following April.
I never really linked the two until the other day when my wife and I were rewatching some of our favorite movies.
Although there is never any references to the movie by Eric or Dylan in the materials released, I wonder if it had any influence on them.
I think Dylan would be more than likely to take solace in his actions through the idea that 'reality' is not reality.
How much, if any, influence did 'The Matrix' have in carrying out the plans? Do you think the boys even saw it?
Thoughts? Opinions? |

| Has there ever been any conformation they saw the film? By that point most of the boys free time and weekends were spent planning for the attack. Devon Adams claimed she had plans with Dylan to go see the movie on Wednesday the 21st, but that obviously never happened. Chances are those plans were a smokescreen on Dylan's part. More plans with people close to him to throw them off his real intentions. | |

| When i first saw Columbine on the news on 4/20 and i heard that they were wearing trench coats The Matrix was my first thought on there influence. Giving the story line of The Matrix (simulated reality) that could be something that easily spurs them on to go through with the killings IMO. I believe this movie was dispelled on a topic a while back, although it doesn't change my opinion of thinking this movie might of had some form of influence, considering there have been a few Matrix related killings in the following years to the movies release. | |

| Natural Born Killers was their main influence - not The Matrix. I don't deny "The Matrix" may have fallen into their line of interests, but they didn't give themselves or their victims the chance to enjoy the film.
I always wonder, did Dylan see himself as Mallory or Mickey? Or did they both see themselves as Mickey? |

| Dylan saw himself as Mickey regardless, he wanted a Mallory, literally a chick but somehow to him I'd assume Eric was his Mallory. But, I'm sure he tried to see him as an equal. For Eric I really don't think he thought of re-enacting the film that much, he probably saw it more of a DOOM point of view. But of course he thought himself as Mickey too if he did. _________________ Will you remain my fire in this temporary paradise?

Eric wore a matching outfit to Mickey during 4/20/1999 though -- but the difference is he had "Natural Selection" printed on his shirt. He wore overalls and a white T-Shirt and matching pants. I think he saw it in a similar way to Dylan. It wasn't just him that enjoyed the film, IIRC their friends said they were both obsessed with it. |

Funny how it wasn't Dylan who dressed exactly like Mickey, emulating him completely. I don't know, maybe Eric called dibs on the outfit so Dylan had to give in wearing black, hahah. I do have a feeling that Dylan over-romanticised the movie and he wanted a female partner in crime by his side. _________________ Will you remain my fire in this temporary paradise?
