There's a weird movie from the 90's directed by Peter Jackson during his early days in New Zealand starring a very young Kate Winslet and the crazy chick from Two and a Half Men. AND IT'S A TRUE STORY based on a crime from the 1950's.
Wealthy and precocious teenager Juliet transfers from England to Christchurch, New Zealand, with her family, and forms a bond with the quiet, brooding Pauline through their shared love of handsome big screen tenor Mario Lanza and games of make believe. But when their parents begin to suspect that their increasingly intense friendship is becoming unhealthy (psychotic teen lesbians), the girls decide to run away to America, hatching a dark plan for those who threaten to keep them apart (basically, Mum gets WHACKED with a brick in a stocking)
They were both sent to separate jails to be released upon 'Her Majesty's Leisure' for those of you not from a country with the Queen on your money that means you're stuck in jail until Her Majesty feels like signing off on your parole papers (welcome to the 1950's in New Zealand)
When they were released a few years later (they were minors with mental health problems so they didn't get a life sentence or even a very long one) it was under the condition that they were NEVER to see or contact each other again.
Now here's the cool part... Both of them wound up living in the UK. Pauline in Kent, England running a horse riding school for children and Juliet in Scotland having become a moderately successful Victorian era mystery/crime novelist who goes by the name Anne Perry.
Do they remain in contact, even though they're not supposed to? And sure they live in different countries but Scotland and England are a pubic hair from each other so it's not like they would have far to travel. This story has fascinated me since I was a teenager and even though the story and the crime are very different I still draw parallels with Eric and Dylan.
If you know about this case I'd love to start a discussion. If you don't know about it but somehow I've managed to get you curious you can find more information about it online. I can't provide links yet but I can give you a few directions:
Wikipedia search Anne Perry. You'll find her story and links to the pages on the crime.
Youtube search Anne Perry there's a video of her talking about her books and her real identity as a teen killer.
Download or Netflix Heavenly Creatures, it's a weird movie and the soundtrack is annoying but it's definitely worth a watch if you like teen killers.
