Well considering that nearly every School Shooting afterwards was inspired by Columbine, I think they're right.

I wouldn't say nearly every school shooting is inspired by Columbine. No one is gonna see Columbine, and think "alright, time to emulate".

I think the "Columbine effect" is on the same level as "video games caused it".

Quite a few shootings were inspired by Columbine though. I wouldn't say that Columbine is the only reason that so many of these shootings happen but I do think it helps motivate some people.

These school shootings have become the norm now. It’s quite amazing to me how normal they have really become. In most instances, Columbine was a factor into why a lot of these shootings occurred. Most, not all.

Whether you want to call it dumb luck, perfect storm from the perpetrators and media, there is no doubt Columbine changed everything.
They aren't really a norm, though. School rampage shootings are extremely rare. There are about 26000 high schools in USA. If school rampage shootings were a norm there, they would happen in most of schools, not in, like, several per year.

It's all media brainwashing. Fearmongering sells so they fearmonger. Sensation sells so they sensationalise. It's one of the main reasons why I have quit watching TV. They take something extremely uncommon and then make it like something that actually happens regularly by disproportionationally talking about it. Nobody makes news about 26000 high schools that didn't get shoot up.

Hungerford caused a bit of a butterfly effect that caused a few shootings, albeit nowhere near as many as Columbine.
