Did she wrote a book a long time before Columbine?

Yep. According to Jeff Kass' book, this is Susan's research paper for her master's degree in reading (Education Studies?) at the Cardinal Stritch College. She had, in the previous years, found an interest in helping troubled kids and adults.  She had started her Master's degree in 1975. (Kass, p.42).

Talking of books, Kass also writes in his that Susan is the anonymous patient named ''Sandra'' appearing in ''Your Inner Conflicts-How to Solve Them'', a book by Hugh Missildine. According to Kass, Susan had sought counselling after the death of her father with counsellor/professor/author Missildine. Her account, transcribed from p.37 to 39, describes her perfectionism and her fear of death.

The then, 19 year-old Susan/Sandra says: ''I have a death phobia. It underlines everything I do. I think about death all the time.'' and '' I think the fear of death will always be there. I wish I could turn off this part of my mind. I wish there were traumas to explain all this, but I've never had any traumas. When I get a headache, I'm always sure it is fatal. then I worry that I will die, which makes the headache worse. Everything makes me think of death. I have to divert myself in the evening constantly [ here she mentions the ways she diverts herself from her death phobia and it doesn't involve vodka ] I feel constantly that I'm coming a minute closer to death. What a waste of time to think of that all the time. But thinking this is a way of life with me.''

Years later, her son will also think intensely about death in the evening, diverting himself by drinking alcohol and writing in his journal. While she tried to keep death at bay, he courted it and embraced it.

Susan channeled her own issues through helping others, and being an outspoken suicide prevention activist.
