The bombs actually go off

This question may have been asked before on this forum and others, but what would the immediate result be had Eric and Dylan’s bombs they had planted in the cafeteria had gone off? For example an instance massive death toll?

Some say the explosion would be so bad the upper library would collapse below into the cafeteria causing who knows Atleast 100 causalities

The attack would be known as the Columbine Bombing, and Harris and Klebold would no longer be school shooters, but terrorists among Timothy Mcveigh and Ted Kaczynski in terms of references, and their attack would likely have been among the hundreds in terms of deaths. The media will claim that the duo were trying to start a revolution among disturbed and rebellious youth, and an even bigger focus is put on domestic terrorism by the FBI in the wake of the bombing.

I guess it’s really hard to say. It really depends on what structural damage they would have potentially done and who would have been trapped or injured by them. You never know until it happens who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I know the bombs weren’t particularly sophisticated but it really depends on what they would have hit.

I can only imagine the sweeping legislation that would come about because of it. More metal detectors and security guards in schools, early internet getting crushed by people looking to control the flow of information on it, etc.

On the plus side, maybe more people would just be homeschooled.

You are correct, there wouldve been an instant death toll. Hundreds, if not most of the school wouldve been dead. It wouldve been on the same level as the oklahoma city bombing. They said in the basement tapes they ''hoped to at least kill 250 of them''.

The death toll would've been much higher. How high would depend on if the bombs were powerful enough to cause significant structural damage. Even if they weren't, the cafeteria was pretty packed, so the sheer force combined with the shrapnel of the propane tanks would've at least killed and injured dozens.

My guess is that only 10–20 would die from the direct impact, including shrapnel, burns, and panic. Keep in mind, the sprinklers would actually go off in an scenario where the pipe bomb would detonate and the fuel would ignite; it wouldn't even come close to causing the propane tanks to BLEVE.
