| (From Wikipedia). Charles Joseph Whitman (June 24, 1941 – August 1, 1966) was an American engineering student and former U.S. Marine who killed 16 people and wounded 32 others in a spree shooting in Austin, Texas on the University of Texas at Austin campus, in and around the Tower on the afternoon of August 1, 1966. Three people were shot and killed inside the university's tower and eleven others were murdered after Whitman fired at random from the 28th-floor observation deck of the Main Building. Whitman was shot and killed by Austin police officer Houston McCoy. Prior to the shootings at the University of Texas at Austin, Whitman had murdered both his wife and mother in Austin. The shooting would remain the deadliest shooting on a U.S. college campus until the Virginia Tech shootings in 2007. About the shooter and the shooting. | Had not heard of this until recently. Prior to finding out about it, I had also read in multiple places that at the time of it happening, Columbine was the worst school shooting in US history. Maybe they were not including Uni shootings? This one doesn't seem to be very famous, I wonder why. _________________ I had it all and I looked at it and I said 'this is a bigger jail than I just got out of'.

| Here is the full length movie based on this shooting featuring Kurt Russell. Pretty decent movie and good quality for being on Youtube. | Columbine was considered the 'worst' shooting on High School grounds. This shooting wouldn't be included because it happened at a college. Same thing as Virginia Tech. _________________ “And may you grow to be proud Dignified and true And do unto others As you'd have done to you”

Ah right, I thought that would be the case. I have about 0 understanding of the American school system. XD _________________ I had it all and I looked at it and I said 'this is a bigger jail than I just got out of'.

Ah right, I thought that would be the case. I have about 0 understanding of the American school system. XD This is a general idea. Elementary School also known as 'Grammar School' starts with Kindergarten and goes up until 5th, 6th and sometimes 7th grade. It all depends on the school district. But, for the most part, Junior High School starts at 6th grade. Junior High School - 6th - 8th grade. High School - 9th - 12th. In High School, you are considered Freshmen (9th grade), Sophomore (10th grade), Junior (11th grade) and Senior (12th grade). College - Is the 4 years after High School. The 'grades' stop and you are just either Freshmen, Sophomore, Junior or Senior. So we start with Kindergarten and then 1st grade, 2nd grade, 3rd grade and so on. Some schools offer Pre - K, which is the year before Kindergarten. However, most pre-schools are entirely independent and have nothing to do with the school district and parents have to pay to send their children there. It's a daycare, more or less. The school shootings in America are put into different categories. For example, Sandy Hook would be one of the worst school shooting at an Elementary School. Virginia Tech would be one of the worst school shootings at an American College. And Columbine, one of the worst at an American High School. Here is a list of the Top 10 deadliest massacres at American schools (Including Elementary - College). | At the time of the incident, it was considered the worst shooting incident at a school in American history (if not worldwide). Tragedies like the University of Texas shootings were pretty much unheard of back in the day, so of course it was a very memorable event among the American peoples. It wasn't until 30 years later when Dunblane occurred (1996), and that set the world record for the deadliest shooting incident at an educational institution. |
