4 dead in murder-suicide in Namysłów, Poland

A 32yo man shot and killed his parents and brother at home in Namysłów, Opole Voivodeship then took his other family members hostage. When the police arrived, the suspect shot and killed himself.

Man, this is so fucking sad, especially because it hits home, hard to think about it when "its not a case somewhere on another continent" but one in your country.

Krzysztof "Christopher" Kamieniecki, 32, of Namysłów who also lived in London, UK in the past.

"The motive was to be jealousy of siblings as prosecutor Stanisław Bar told ESKA radio:

'At this stage of the investigation, I can say that Krzysztof K. felt resentment towards his siblings and parents. According to him, his siblings were favored and he was left out of family decisions' - Stanisław Bar said."

He shot and killed his family members with a submachine gun. He owned it legally. All the victims were shot in the dining room, while the perpetrator shot himself in a garage adjacent to the house.

and the fact that he used to live in the country I currently live in right now is also quite stunning to me, It's kinda sad that the people in the country I was born in can get fucking guns, yknow gun control laws in poland should be at least made stricter because we dont want another shooting occouring in Poland rn

Gun laws in Poland are strict. To legally obtain pneumatic weapons with a power under 17 joules, individuals must be at least 18 years old, a Polish citizen with permanent residency in the country, free from any diagnosed mental health conditions, and not under the influence of psychoactive substances.

To legally obtain firearms, individuals must be at least 21 years old and meet the above criteria, in addition to providing a valid reason for owning weapons. There are six reasons for firearm ownership: personal or property protection, hunting, sport shooting, historical reenactment, collecting, or training purposes. If the reason is personal protection, you need to demonstrate a constant, real threat to life, health, or property. It's not just "I want to protect myself, let me get a gun," but rather proving that your life or health is in constant danger. The process of acquiring firearms is lengthy and costly.

When applying, you must submit a medical and psychological assessment (meaning that in order to get a firearm, you need to go through both medical and psychological tests), and you must pay the mandatory fee. Additionally, you are required to pass an exam before a commission, testing your knowledge of the regulations regarding the use and handling of specific firearms. The fee for the exam is 500 PLN.

The number of Poles who own legal, registered weapons is truly small. For about 38 million people living in Poland, there are only about 900 thousand firearms among them. It was a much lower number, but since the Ukrainian-Russian war began, Polish people started to purchase weapons out of concern for their own safety. (Not to mention that most of the weapons are for hunting use only.)

Even if "only" four people died in the incident [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] described, it's still a tragedy. Imagine that four of the most important people in your life vanish because of a cruel, inexcusable act. Nobody should ever diminish such events.
