Subject: Dylan's "friends" that are girls.... Sat Mar 12, 2016 6:37 pm
So I'm rather a little confused. One of Dylan's major problems he was facing in life is that he couldn't get a girlfriend. That's what I mostly got out from reading his diary. And in Erik's diary, Erik also mentions he needs to get laid. Well we know Dylan went to the prom with Robyn and we've seen the picture of the graduating class where we can see Dylan's arm around a girl and pointing their fingers like guns together. BTW who is this girl? Seems like he was close with these girl(s)? He even got Robyn to get them guns. Why didn't he pursue things with her?
And the girl he is talking about in his love letter saying they had to do a report together and he remembers her laugh. I'm wondering if he was making jokes or something and got her to laugh. No one knows who this girl is yet? Id love to know who was in that class of his and to read that report they did together.

The girl in the senior photo where they are pretending to point guns is Robyn.

Does anyone know what the deal was with Robyn......did she not like Dylan as a boyfriend or was it just that they mutually didn't feel that way about each other?

I get the impression she liked him, but it seems Dylan didn't want to be anything more then friends.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], The story with Robyn was that she had a romantic interest in Dylan. He was aware of this but he didn't share it.He only wanted to be her friend. I don't know why he wasn't interested in her as she was a lovely girl who was intelligent enough to be in advanced classes and ace them. I guess she just wasn't a halcyon girl to him for whatever reason.

I'm pretty sure I know the answer but I'm not sure how proper it is to say it.

I was wondering the same. Why Dylan didn't pursue her. Probably liked that girl in his letter more.

I'm not sure what Dylan considered a halcyon girl exactly.I'm sure they were obviously pretty and he seemed drawn to them them being pure.I guess that means sexually pure but I'm not certain. If there were 2 or 3 halcyon girls as sometimes it seems there were, I would be fascinated to know if they resembled each other and had similar personalities or were different from each other.

He was gay? I wonder about that too.Like, sometimes I think the whole 'her' in his journals is just a scarecrow, while he was actually in love with some guy or more than one through his life. This might explain why he deleted his HD. Maybe it was filled with gay porn, and he didn't want to be remembered as an actual fag, like the jocks called he and Eric. All he ever said was he was into foot and bondage fetish,we will never know the specific gender.

I don't think Dylan was gay at all. I mean, there never been any evidence to suggest such a thing.I know that you never know about people behind close doors but I'd have to see something, anything at all ,besides speculation to believe this.

My guess here is that he knew Robyn too well to be interested in her. Dylan dreamed of some fantasy, perfection, one true love. No girl, especially a normal teenage high school student was actually going to satisfy him. Robyn was probably not that different from the girls he pined over. She was just too "real" because he'd spent time with her. He couldn't idealize and idolize her in the way that he did with girls he admired from afar. Dylan was wrapped up in romanticizing everything, especially the idea of love. If he had found the courage to ask out the girl he thought he wanted, I'm sure he'd soon find that all the emotion he devoted to her had actually derived from imagined qualities and she would not have lived up to his expectations.

No, I think I said it before somewhere else but i'll say my opinion again. Now you can think I'm rude for it but I'm gonna say what a lot of people secretly think : Piggy-face and fat, not very feminine. Even when she was thin (in that old photo) she had a piggy-face.Oh - and not exciting.
I tend to think she was rather dull, not adventurous. Highschool guys want exciting women. Not gonna lie , I'd rate 3/10 , maybe 4/10 at best. Honestly she's not really bad at all, even cute , especially in that Committee video , I'd hit it but I'm not gay but she's not the standard beauty that existed in pretty good amounts in that high school.
God or not , I'm absolutely convinced he had some not surprising tastes in women. I'm pretty sure his ideal was feminine and a little mysterious and quite social. I'm not and will never be convinced his choice was some tomboy girl who liked guns and sat alone all the time (Even though some girls might be delusional enough to think that was the case). Maybe the only thing that was less common was him not liking popular hotties.

Well he put it pretty stright forward, but I kind of thought the same thing. She really wasn't that good looking in the eyes of Dylan. Face it, in highschool no one wants to be seen with a chunky girl. It sounds harsh but it's ironic because even ugly guys I knew who had girls like Robyn after them wouldn't go out with her even though they shouldn't have had standards that high in the first place.

You guys are harsh. I thought she was maybe just slightly above average in size. But I agree that high school is an extremely harsh environment. I was slightly chunky in 9th grade and then I lost a lot of weight and got really skinny in the 10th grade and suddenly guys wouldn't leave me alone. People are so shallow. Oh well. Eric seems to have been slightly more diverse in his choice of girls.

And you're pretty sure of this because he actually said or implied that somewhere or because this is your own preference?

Wow... so harsh.People have different tastes but I think Robyn was so pretty. If she was chubby or fat, I know a lot of girls who would like to be chubby. I don't know if Dylan could have done so much better than her.

Neither , it's just a hunch. Call it 6th sense.

Thats just the high school mentality. Even "fat" guys didn't want to be seen with "fat" girls. It makes no real sense, but its somehow logical in a high schoolers mind.

You have to remember too that in 1999, it was not as...normalized as it is now to be overweight. Hell, I remember there being a Reddit thread about the 1999 Columbine class photo and one of the comments was about "how many fewer fat kids there were" back then. A third of the American population is obese and another third is at least slightly overweight now, and I think Robyn was skinny by today's standards. Then again, I do live in Appalachia and walking around on my college campus I see maybe 1 in 3 girls who aren't noticeably fat - and by that I don't mean chunky thighs or love handles, I mean rotund in some way. The ratio is not nearly that low with guys.

We have the pictures of other girls he tried to date. I'd say his taste is just the normie boy taste in women: thin - pretty faced - pretty hair. That's it. Robyn was maybe a little bit out if that standard.
Also, there's another thing I thought about how he openly rejected her and is the fact that plenty of people on the 11K could very easily see how head over heels/trying too hard she was around Dylan. I've got the idea, knowing what we know, that he didn't exactly like a girl that serves herself on a silver plate to him.
Dylan not only romanticized the idea of love itself more than his crushes, but he also wanted a challenge, on top of it all.
Movie-like romance, boy and girl bumping into each other kind of a thing (or at least that’s how it seems to me in his journal, the letter he didn't send, the poems...). He idealized love, and how he would find it too, I guess. And having Robyn throwing herself at him just wasn’t it. .
On Robyn's defense tho, I was absolutely obvious when I tried to date a boy too when I was her age, so I totally get it.
