It’s absurd. Columbine was a pretty conservative and religious school (granted Danny R’s father said it wasn’t) and you can’t take religion out of schools because those who believe don’t lose their beliefs because their in a secular place...

Someone who wants to commit a crime like this won’t be swayed by a damn sign they will want to play “god” even more.

http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/gradebook/2018/02/21/florida-house-approves-bill-to-post-in-god-we-trust-in-all-public-schools/
With the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High shooting still looming large, its students in the Capitol to lobby for gun controls, the Florida House overwhelmingly passed a measure Wednesday its sponsor said aimed at bringing "light" to the schools.

The bill (HB 839) would require all public schools to post the state motto, "In God We Trust," in a "conspicuous place."

RELATED COVERAGE: NRA influential in Florida, but not through campaign money

Sponsor Rep. Kim Daniels, a Jacksonville Democrat who runs her own ministry, said Florida needed the legislation, given the goings on in the state.

"He is not a Republican or a Democrat. He is not black or white," Daniels said. "He is the light, and our schools need light in them like never before."

RELATED COVERAGE: Florida House declares pornography a health risk

She spoke directly of the school shooting, and said it's no secret that the state has "gun issues" that must be addressed.

"But the real thing that needs to be addressed are issues of the heart," Daniels said.

She mentioned video games as an example, saying children are being trained to become virtual assassins. Things might be getting so bad, Daniels suggested, that people will come to realize problems are much larger than politics.

"We cannot put God in a closet when the issues we face are bigger than us," she said, urging colleagues to back the bill.

The bill passed 97-10, with the result winning a standing ovation. The Senate has yet to take up a companion bill in any committees.

Did the nineties come back when I wasn't looking? I mean do they seriously think that putting religion in the school or banning violent video games is anything other than a feel good measure? Do these people need a history lesson on human violence in the past 500 years?

Agree. I'm not one to mock someone's faith, but that school could have had a cross in every classroom, Jesus paintings lining the hallways, and the end result would have still been the same.

http://tribunist.com/news/armed-deputy-refused-to-enter-fl-high-school-while-17-people-were-being-killed/?utm_source=DAN

Highlights from article-

An armed law enforcement officer that was assigned to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on the day of the shooting has resigned. An internal review revealed that the officer, even though he “was absolutely on campus through this entire event,” did not enter the school during the deadly shooting that occurred last week.

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel made the announcement regarding the officer’s resignation. Israel had suspended the officer, identified as Scot Peterson, without pay while the investigation was underway, though Peterson ultimately chose to resign.

“We’re not going to disclose the video at this time, and we may never disclose the video, depending on the prosecution and the criminal case,” said Israel. “But what I saw was a deputy arrive at the west side of building 12, take up a position – and he never went in.”

A reporter at the press conference asked Israel what Peterson should have done, to which he replied, “Went in, addressed the killer, killed the killer.”

Israel stated that the video he saw left him “devastated” and made him “sick to [his] stomach.”

“There are no words,” he added.

I wont be suprised if they say that the massacre happened because "there was no Jesus in Cruz's life"

http://wcyb.com/news/nation-world/students-parents-disgusted-after-learning-deputy-on-duty-stayed-outside-during-parkland

From article-

Parents are sick upon hearing the news. Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School students are shocked, saying it’s not the actions of a School Resource Officer they know and love since 2009.
“With this officer, and everything that happened, I’m sorry, I’m disgusted,” Jennifer Landu said, parent.

It was the hot topic conversation at Pine Trails Park in Parkland Thursday night.
Dozens couldn’t believe the armed school resource deputy, whose job was to protect students, stayed outside as the shooting unfolded.

“He could have went in, that’s his job. That’s what they do every day, they put their lives on the line, that’s their job,” Jennifer Landu said.

This resource officer is getting crucified.

Yeah, right. They will pray for his soul watching his execution.

One thing that's different from Columbine, at least, is that students are returning to the same school next week. I assume it's because the shooting only took place in the freshman building, so it's easy to just close it off and open the rest of the school. Still I can't imagine going back so soon.

This resource officer is getting crucified.

It may have been his job and he failed his duty, but let's not crucify him, we haven't heard his version of events and we probably won't if we rush to judgment. He's just a human with his own family that depends on him probably, how can you know how you'll act in that situation? He wouldn't know how many gunmen there were, how they're armed, etc. Even a member of SWAT wouldn't go it alone.

Did he write any papers on how to stop school shootings like Eric did?

I wonder how many kids just copied some of Eric’s papers and handed them in as their own?

Sounds to me like he majorly fucked up and caused this massacre to be a lot worse than it should've been. If people want to shit on him I say they can go for it.

While reading several articles, I keep running into reports that the security cams inside the school had a 20 min lag.

I can't help but wonder if this might have been partly why the officer didn't enter the school? scratch

So clueless. Im not willing to sacrifice on the 1st amendment either. So no censoring of games, movies, music, etc.

Not like that would work anyway.

Atleast Trump has a novel idea, he thinks we should put ratings on these things Haha

Whats scary is how dangerously close we're getting to 1984. Tell me that town hall wasn't eerily similar to this

Police officers are supposed to be willing to expose themselves to risks for the sake of others. If you are unable or unwilling to do that then you shouldn't be a police officer.

He likely became a resource officer at a high school because he thought the worse he'd have to deal with is the occasional fight that breaks out, drugs/alcohol on campus, and parking violations. The fact that he didn't go in shows his cowardice and that he wasn't fit for his position. As a police officer, I believe that he deserves every bit of criticism for not going in against the shooter. As a person, I can't help but see him as a human being who had a self-preservation instinct who likely had a family of his own that he wanted to come home to. Keep in mind that this would've been one officer with a pistol going against someone with an AR-15, as well. Not that it changes the fact that he should've gone to at least try and stop the shooter, but I think it's important to note that his match, without backup, would've been very unbalanced.

From article-

A Pennsylvania church is holding a blessing ceremony for AR-15 assault rifles not far from a local elementary school.

The blessing will take place at the World Peace and Unification Sanctuary in Newfoundland next Wednesday morning, and around 600 people are expected to attend.

The church is known for its pro-gun stance, and for their support of the AR-15 in particular, believes that the rifle is the Biblical “rod of iron.”

The church members have been instructed to bring their rifles or proof that they will be purchasing their rifles to the ceremony, according to Newsweek.

“If unable to purchase and legally transport such a ‘rod of iron’ because of laws barring the purchase of weapons, or other reasons, couples are invited to purchase a $700 gift card from a gun store, as such evidence of their intent to purchase a ‘rod of iron’ in the future,” their website said."

Not sure. But based on the article these people think the AR-15 is the modern day "rod of iron" talked about in the bible. Laughing

It just occurred to me: how was Cruz able to afford his gun? Where did a high school dropout get the money for an AR-15 rifle?

The woman who tipped off the FBI said that after his mom died, he got ahold of her debit card, took money from her account, and bought all his rifles with it.

I didn't know you could buy a gun with a debit card. The more you know.

I'm listening to Liz Wheeler and she's speaking to someone about how Cruz was put in a type of diversion program... interesting, I'd like to look more into this.

Today, I found out that my close friend's cousin was one of the 17 victims who died during the shooting. I've been following this thread for a while, but I didn't feel the extent of the impacts from the shooting until I found this out. I think it's really interesting how shootings never feel, for lack of a better word, "real" until you have a personal connection with it. Sorry for this blog-y nonsensical post, I'm still digesting all of this. I just really hope that bastard Nikolas gets what he deserves.

Sorry to hear that Sad

Who was the cousin, if you don't mind me asking of course?

When I first heard about this shooting, I remember the first name I read, it was the name of Joaquin. Some of his friend have posted Florida's subreddit that they are looking for him, his sister has posted on Facebook, asking if someone has seen him. I kinda felt a little bit more connection to them from that point on. It's weird I don't know how to explain it, may be "connection" it's not the right word, but I can't explain it, the way I feel it.

I don't want to express any political views, but yesterday I was reading about Austin Harrouff and I came across a reddit post "Why are leftists so violent?" and there is a huuuuuge list of Trump supporters who killed people recently and now we can add Nikolas to that list too....

Sorry, I didn't check the thread before now. His name was Alex Schachter. And I know exactly what you mean. All of this feels so personal to the point where I know I'll remember this for the rest of my life.

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2018/02/24/several-broward-deputies-waited-outside-during-florida-school-shooting-report-says.html

From article-

"Coral Springs cops who responded to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School say several Broward sheriff’s deputies waited outside rather than rush in as the killer was gunning down students, according to reports.

The allegations emerged a day after veteran Broward deputy Scot Peterson resigned under fire for failing to enter the school during the Valentine’s Day shooting. President Trump on Friday said Peterson, who was assigned to guard the school, “did a poor job.”

"The Florida Sun-Sentinel reported that according to police sources at least three Broward deputies, including Peterson, waited outside. The Broward Sheriff’s Office said Friday it is investigating the Coral Springs officer's claims."

Two additional Broward deputies are also under investigation over whether they mishandled warnings about Cruz in the months leading up to the shooting. The FBI has admitted it failed to investigate similar claims, and Florida child welfare agency looked into concerns about Cruz, but concluded he wasn’t a risk to himself or others.

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel told the Sun-Sentinel that three Coral Springs officers said one or more sheriff’s deputies did not go into the school building when they should have, and their concerns were relayed to the sheriff’s office by the Coral Springs police chief."

Apparently others also waited outside and never entered the building. Sad

http://abcnews.go.com/US/florida-sheriff-investigating-deputies-remained-school-shooting/story?id=53325711

From article-

The Broward County Sheriff's Office is investigating reports that three of its deputies remained outside Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in the midst of the Feb. 14 shooting rampage, instead of entering the school, Sheriff Scott Israel confirmed to ABC News.

"If there is no wrongdoing in the part of our deputies, we’ll move on," Israel said Friday. "If there is wrongdoing on the part of our deputies, we’ll handle it accordingly as I have for 5 years as sheriff."

Israel was responding to reports by CNN and South Florida's Sun-Sentinel newspaper, which which cited unnamed police sources within the Coral Springs Police Department, claiming that Coral Springs officers were shocked to arrive at the scene and see the Broward deputies still outside, with their pistols drawn and behind their vehicles. Coral Springs neighbors Parkland, where the shooting rampage that claimed 17 lives occurred.

ABC News has not confirmed those reports, nor is it clear if gunman Nikolas Cruz was inside the school when the Coral Springs officers say they arrived.

But Israel doesn't need to rely on those reports -- his office is hearing it directly from his colleagues in Coral Springs, he said.

"This information came to us from Chief [Anthony] Pustizzi of Coral Springs," Israel said. "He relayed it to one of my colonels, my colonel filled me in, we immediately decided that the course of action we’re going to take is meet with the Chief and ask for permission to interview his officers. Contingent upon what they say we will head our investigation in whatever way we need to."

Israel continued, "We will dot every I, cross every T. We'll do it in a meticulous manner. If there is no wrongdoing in the part of our deputies, we'll move on. If there is wrongdoing on the part of our deputies, we’ll handle it accordingly as I have for 5 years as sheriff."

I hope this doesn't turn into another Jeffco situation! Damn just admit it if they did something wrong. Don't try to cover anyone's ass. Evil or Very Mad

I mean it is obvious that this kid was deeply troubled, desperately so. My mind is just reeling at the number of times he could have been stopped.

Such a f*cking sad situation all together. 17 people dead, countless lives destroyed, including his own. Much like Columbine this could and should have been avoided. Sad

He just looks like he is reading invisible newspaper all the time. I've read some information about that he have some diagnosis related to autistic spectrum disorder, if so, then I do understand why he avoiding to look at the people, and it's not because he feel remorse it's just because he feel uncomfortable around all those ppl.
