Why do mass murderers leak information ?

Why do they do that ?
I think that there are 2 kind of information leakages:
-The voluntary ones
-The involuntary ones
But why do they do that ?

Agree. Most people love to talk.

Also Eric had a love of foreshadowing. He especially liked it because he knew he had the upper hand. Eric probably liked the fact no one had a clue what was coming and likely wouldn't until after NBK.

E&D both let tiny little bits of info out. People just assumed they were ranting or joking.

I wonder if that's why William let fly with so many red flags, he wanted to foreshadow his own attack as much as possible.

Angry and frustrated people make impulsive comments. And if they've decided to commit mass murder, then that is all they'll be thinking about, so of course it'll come out.

Perhaps some get gratification out of talking about it also.

Maybe.

I think it's more because they want to talk about it - but know they can't (not without being locked up, at any rate). I remember reading that people keeping secrets have a natural urge to tell them. Plus, the people who do these sort of things tend to have a impulsive personality and often don't think ahead.

They want to get caught

Possibly they want to become more infamous by leaking red flags.

Depends on the red flag waved IMO. If it's "yeah I'm gonna go kill people at X place" then yeah I think they're trying to get caught, but if it's more subtle than that getting caught probably isn't in the cards.

I think some people keep leaking small hints and try and make people connect the dots without giving the game away.
