A spokesman for the department, Deputy Charles Moore, said police received multiple reports of an armed man on campus at Highland High School in Palmdale, California, about 90 minutes north of Los Angeles, around 7 a.m. local time (1400 GMT). He said police have not yet confirmed whether the reports were true or whether any shots had been fired. Sheriff’s deputies also headed to a second school, Manzanita Elementary School, a few miles away after receiving reports that people thought they heard gunfire, according to another spokesman, Bob Boese. Boese said police have not confirmed those reports. CNN reported that three schools nearby were on lockdown. School district officials could not immediately be reached on Friday morning. Still not confirming anything. |

A sheriff's spokesperson said it remained unconfirmed whether any shots were fired at the campus. So they don't even know if any shots were fired or not? |

The suspect, described as a "male Hispanic juvenile" by the department on Twitter, was not identified. Police also said they had recovered one firearm from the scene at Highland High School in Palmdale, California, about 60 miles (97 km) north of Los Angeles. It was not clear whether the suspect or the victim, who was in stable condition at a hospital, were students at the school. |

Firefighter-paramedics and deputies descended on Highland High School in Palmdale, located in the high desert north of Los Angeles, Friday morning after a report of gunman on the campus. That individual, later identified as a 14-year-old former student at the school, was detained at a shopping center about an hour after the initial reports. Authorities said a rifle was recovered a "distance away" in the desert a half-mile from the school. "It was found in a field," said sheriff's Capt. Darren Harris. "It was discarded by the suspect as he was fleeing the area." The sheriff's department is looking into how the boy obtained the weapon. Los Angeles County fire officials said a 15-year-old male student was hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the arm. The injuries are not considered life-threatening. |
