A teenager armed with a gun walked onto his high school campus today and was confronted by the school’s armed resource officer. When the boy opened fire on the officer, the officer took him down. There were no other injuries. The shooting, which began just after 8:00 a.m. this morning, was over as quickly as it began. Officer Mark Dallas at Dixon High School in Illinois is being celebrated for his role in stopping the shooting, the Daily Mail reports. The suspect he shot was acting alone, police say, and had not shot at other students. Lee County Sheriff’s Department reports that the gunman is a 19-year-old former student. Students were evacuated as a precaution, and bused to a local baseball field. The incident reportedly took place in the school’s gym, where seniors had gathered to rehearse for graduation. “We’re lucky the officer was there,” City Administrator Danny Langloss said. “His brave actions saved a lot of lives.” “Today, we should all be very thankful to school resource officer Mark Dallas for his bravery and quick action to immediately diffuse a dangerous situation at Dixon High School,” Illinois governor Bruce Rauner added. The shooter, who has not been named, was not killed in the incident. He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. His condition is unknown, but his injuries are not considered life threatening. “A Dixon Police Officer confronted an armed male subject at the Dixon High School at approximately 8:00 am on May 16, 2018,” the Dixon Police Department posted on Facebook. “Preliminary investigation shows the suspect shot at the police officer, the officer returned fire, and the suspect was injured.” “His injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening. The suspect is in custody and is receiving medical treatment. No students or staff were injured in the incident.” “The Dixon High School and all Dixon Public Schools are on lockdown.” “Dixon Police believe the suspect acted alone and that there is no further threat to the safety of students or staff.” Not a lot on this yet. Thankfully he was stopped. |

| Huh, another "19-year old former student" committing a school shooting, luckily this one was stopped quick enough from becoming another Robert Steinhäuser or Nikolas Cruz. | |

Agreed. From what has been released so far, it seems he was trying to get into the room where the Seniors were rehearsing for graduation. Not sure if this is significant or not, will have to see what is said later on. But that just stuck out to me though. |

The incident began near the school’s west gymnasium about 8 a.m., according to officials speaking at a late-morning news conference. Earlier in the day, City Manager Danny Langloss said students were gathered at the gym for graduation practice. Dixon police Chief Steven Howell said the suspect, a 19-year-old former student, “fired several shots near the west gym.” The school resource officer confronted the suspect, who then fled from the school with the officer in pursuit, Howell said. During the pursuit, the suspect fired several shots at the officer but did not strike him. The officer returned fire and struck the suspect, who was then taken into custody just west of the school, Howell said. He was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No one else was injured. An earlier account said the gunfire exchange took place in the gym. Sauk Valley Media said the sheriff identified the officer as school resource Officer Mark Dallas. Howell praised the officer for saving lives. Dixon Mayor Liandro Arellanno Jr. also praised the officer’s response. “From the angle I’m looking at right now, at lot of things went right today when a great many of them could have (gone) wrong,” he said. “Things could have gone much worse.” Authorities have not provided the gunman’s name. Authorities say students did exactly as they were trained to do in such situations. Officials said they were pleased to discover that students had barricaded themselves into classrooms by blocking doorways with chairs, desks and other furniture. Police have not said why the former student came to the school.

Well it is possible that the these people know that most schools are getting ready to let out for the Summer. So they are having to just wing it, and go in half assed. OR wait until schools start back in the Fall. Time will tell if/when they release a motive. But this kid didn't seem to have any plan at all. Which is a good thing as no one was hurt. |

Steinhauser didn't have many warning signs. There will never be another Steinhauser. He commited his shooting efficiently and if Mr. Heise didn't see him, Robert could've killed more teachers and even cops. He was not flashing warning signs and lied to his parents about going to school. He was known to be a bit quiet but didn't show anything that would get him locked up. His good aim and how calculated his attack was would make any security guard wind up dead for sure. If he can snipe a police officer from a window with a glock, he can do the same to a security guard or cop on duty whatever the school has. |

Not sure if this is significant or not, will have to see what is said later on. But that just stuck out to me though. Probably a combination of taking out his rage of not graduating (which I assume he didn't) and/or the fact that a lot of people are together in a small area. |

Didn't he threaten a teacher? Langman states on page 23 of "School Shooters" that he "formed a gun with his hand, pointed it at [a] teacher, and said, “Rat-a-tat-a-tat-a-tat, you’re dead". Somewhat concerning, but I can see how a teacher would ignore this coming from someone who otherwise appeared to be a normal kid. _________________ "If opportunities for role fulfilment fall far short of the demand by those capable of filling roles, and having expectations to do so, only violence and disruption of social organization can follow.
