"Hate Me" by Blue October. Justin Furstenfeld wrote it as a posthumous message to his mother after she died while he was recovering from substance abuse and didn't live to see him sober up. It makes me think of how much E&D's friends, family members, etc. must have been searching inside themselves and blaming themselves for things after it happened - and how Eric was sad about connections he would break and friends he would never see again. I can imagine it would have been easier for him to deal with that if he didn't think anyone truly cared about him.
I actually just lost a friend to suicide a little over a month ago and can attest to how much this song hit home to me in terms of helping me deal with regret about not having talked to him for a long time and feeling like I failed to be there for him. This song helped me through it and made me realize that everyone has regrets after someone they love dies suddenly, and it doesn't mean that we failed them or that we loved them any less. It just means we're human. It helped me get through a recent sudden breakup of a relationship that was a week short of what would have been our third anniversary. Basically, this song has gotten me though a lot.

There's a song by a spanish rapper called Porta, "Voces en mi interior" (Voices in my interior), about a kid who hears voices in his head. The song is a dialogue between him and his internal voice, the voice convinces him to take revenge on the school and all the bullies who mistreated him. So he goes and gets a can of gasoline, emptying it and lighting it up with a match. Talks about how irresistable hearing their screams was. Then he ends up in a mental institution and talks about wanting to kill the nurses.

For some reason this song. The big loud thumps (not sure what else to call it??) remind me of gunshots, and the lyrics  for sure:
When you were young and your heart was an open book You used to say live and let live (you know you did, you know you did you know you did) But if this ever changing world in which we're living Makes you give in and cry Say live and let die Live and let die Live and let die Live and let die What does it matter to ya When you got a job to do You gotta do it well You gotta give the other fellow hell

when I hear this song, I see a montage in my head of Eric and Dylan, driving around, playing Doom, making explosives and setting them off, working in Black Jack, sitting in class, going out at night, watching a movie together, clowning around and laughing, this song for some reason really sums up their 1997-1998 days together as friends, before it all changed.

"Angel" by Sarah McLachlan. It was written in memory of someone who died of a drug overdose but could just as easily apply to the mental illness both boys suffered and, in parts, to them cutting themselves.
Sarah McLachlan wrote:
Spend all your time waiting For that second chance, For a break that will make it okay. There's always some reason to feel not good enough And it's hard at the end of the day. I need some distraction - Oh, beautiful release. Memories seep from my veins. Let me be empty Oh, and weightless and maybe I'll find some peace tonight.
In the arms of the angel Fly away from here. From this dark, cold hotel room And the endlessness that you fear. You are pulled from the wreckage Of your silent reverie. You're in the arms of the angel: May you find some comfort here.
I'm so tired of the straight line, And everywhere you turn, There's vultures and thieves at your back. And the storm keeps on twisting, you keep on building the lies That you make up for all that you lack It don't make to difference, escaping one last time. It's easier to believe In this sweet madness, Oh, this glorious sadness That brings me to my knees.
In the arms of the angel Fly away from here. From this dark, cold hotel room And the endlessness that you fear. You are pulled from the wreckage Of your silent reverie. You're in the arms of the angel: May you find some comfort here.
You're in the arms of the angel: May you find some comfort here.

I think Eric would have liked this song.....so it reminds me of him:
This song reminds me of Dylan:
Life, it seems, will fade away Drifting further every day Getting lost within myself Nothing matters, no one else
I have lost the will to live Simply nothing more to give There is nothing more for me Need the end to set me free
Things not what they used to be Missing one inside of me Deathly lost, this can't be real Cannot stand this hell I feel
Emptiness is filling me To the point of agony Growing darkness taking dawn I was me, but now he's gone
No one but me can save myself, but it's too late Now I can't think, think why I should even try
Yesterday seems as though it never existed Death greets me warm, now I will just say goodbye

Part of me wants to say it's about the satisfaction of not needing revenge... and i say no, that some new age stuff. I think it's a song about the moment in your quest for revenge when you learn to embrace the futility of it. The moment where you know the thing you want is ridiculous and pompous and a terrible thing to want anyway. The direction in which you're headed is not the direction you want to go, yet you're going to head that way a while longer cause that's just the kind of person you are."
Makes me think of E/D a lot.

"A Daydream Away" by All Time Low. It reminds me of how Dylan never approached a lot of the girls he liked, probably because he didn't want to be rejected and hurt. It sounds like the fantasies he'd write in his journal about spending time with his Halcyon girl.
Alex Gaskarth wrote:
I wish you could see your face right now, 'Cause you're grinning like a fool. And we're sitting on your kitchen floor On a Tuesday afternoon. It doesn't matter when we get back To doing what we do, 'Cause right now could last forever - Just as long as I'm with you.
You're just a daydream away; I wouldn't know what to say if I had you. And I'll keep you a daydream away, Just watch from a safe place So I never have to lose.
We would go out on the weekend To escape our busy lives. And we'd laugh at all the douche-bag guys Chasing down their desperate wives. I would drink a little too much; You'd offer me a ride. And I would offer you a t-shirt - And you would stay another night.
But you're just a daydream away; I wouldn't know what to say if I had you. And I'll keep you a daydream away, Just watch from a safe place So I never have to lose.
We never stood a chance out there Shooting love in real-time. So we'll take it over ice tonight, With a little salt And a little lime.
You're just a daydream away; I wouldn't know what to say if I had you. And I'll keep you a daydream away, Just watch from a safe place So I never have to lose.
You're just a daydream away I wouldn't know what to say if I had you.

Korn-Blind.
My interpretation of this song is that it's about a struggle through depression and anger. Eventually It gets worse and worse until it's unbearable and your mind goes "blind". You become so overcome with misery that it's all you see in the world.
Definitely reminds me of Columbine.

KMFDM Down and Out always reminded me of Eric. The song has what sounds like military boots marching.
Also I just read Marilyn Mansons song Disposable Teens is also about Columbine along with The Nobodies (obvious) off the same album

----
One snap for the dying One click to end the day Another story with a mangled scene It couldn't happen any other way
You wanna talk about it? I'm begging you to walk in my shoes any time Watch the clock till you unwind You wanna cry about it It's making me consider that I've lost my mind The way I see you must be blind
So this is the world you left behind This is the guilt that consumes you
So die alone This is the one thing that I won't do So say your prayers Cause I ain't leaving here without you
Can't bribe me with money Can't shower me with shame Another killer from a broken home Until you cover me with manic fame
You wanna know about it? But I'm a be fucking with you every time Story broken, you're behind And when you ask about it? You can rest assured I'll give you my best side Seems we all have friends to find
So this is the hate I've been born to Full are the tales of the untrue
So die alone This is the one thing that I won't do So say your prayers Cause I ain't leaving here without you
And I'm waiting Waiting for the days to slowly pass me by (And all the promises I'll find) No hesitating, you pull the trigger now your story's left behind I know you want to see me fry Like my soul, you won't survive

"Blackbird," originally by The Beatles.
Blackbird singing in the dead of night Take these broken wings and learn to fly All your life You were only waiting for this moment to arise. Blackbird singing in the dead of night Take these sunken eyes and learn to see All your life You were only waiting for this moment to be free. Blackbird fly Blackbird fly Into the light of the dark black night. Blackbird fly Blackbird fly Into the light of the dark black night. Blackbird singing in the dead of night Take these broken wings and learn to fly All your life You were only waiting for this moment to arise You were only waiting for this moment to arise You were only waiting for this moment to arise.

This song makes me think about Dylan.
I'm drowning in sadness Falling far behind I feel there is just no way out Is there anyone there? Where am I?
Insanity and loneliness Tear my painful heart Broken heart keeps on going to beat But it never stops bleeding
I've been waiting for love to come Someone who wants to touch me inside Memories of my yesterdays
Careless words and deeds Masquerade of love Gotta find my way outta here
I was blinded by dark desire Over time I've been through it all I'm crying my share of tears
What can I do Will I make it through I must be true to myself
Voiceless Screaming Calling to me inside of my heart Voiceless Screaming Now is the time I got to speak out
Voice of faith, I'm starting to realize Now my eyes can see I have gone so far I'm feeling breath of life
And I'm looking for love to reach Someone I want to touch deep inside Light shines on my sight of doubt Don't be afraid Move forward one step Willing mind is what I have found at last
Voiceless Screaming Calling to me inside of my heart Voiceless Screaming Now is the time I got to speak out
Voiceless Screaming Calling to me inside of my heart Knockin' on my soul's door I believe in myself and trust what I do
Voiceless Screaming Pain of the past still hurts me inside Knockin' on my soul's door I climb the stairs that lead me to Heaven

Nothing More It Seems
Alone in the room, TV on Like the white screen his life's gone A moving shell, a wandering ghost A shadow of a man who nobody knows He hardly speaks when you say his name He's just embarrassed to say Anything to anyone In his mind there's no way out
He said he wants to die He wonders how anyone survives Being overlooked and trite
As seasons change And trees grow bare His reflection's a stranger Back it won't stare It's like everybody else Just too busy for his simple self
He walks 13 blocks to the city's cross Puts dust on his knees Prays for a god that doesn't leave It's lonely here in hell He prays to be somebody else In his mind there's no way out
In the sand he sinks to his knees Mobile world around, just out of reach Tears rolling down his cheeks He has to believe, believe in himself
Put up, hold out Break down, scream loud Wave fists, and shout It's done It's done Now stand tall, prove all Push on, now you see It's your life, It's your fight Live free, don't hide You've got to believe
