I Think "Everyday Is Exactly The Same"by NIN Would've been a favorite of Dylan's. I can definitely picture him listening to this alone during a drive to school or on his way home from a late shift at Blackjack.

For some reason, when I heard the song Cool Kids by Echosmith, I instantly thought of Eric and Dylan:

She sees them walking in a straight line,
That's not really her style
And they all got the same heartbeat
But hers is falling behind
Nothing in this world could
Ever bring them down
Yeah, they're invincible, and she's just in the background
And she says

I wish that I could be like the cool kids
'Cause all the cool kids, they seem to fit in
I wish that I could be like the cool kids
Like the cool kids

He sees them talking with a big smile
But they haven't got a clue
Yeah, they're living the good life
Can't see what he is going through
They're driving fast cars
But they don't know where they're going
In the fast lane, living life without knowing
And he says

I wish that I could be like the cool kids
'Cause all the cool kids, they seem to fit in
I wish…

PostSubject: Re: Songs that remind you of Columbine.   Songs that remind you of Columbine. - Page 9 Icon_minitimeThu Mar 22, 2018 5:22 pm

So, here are some songs that remind me of Columbine:

- "Macbeth - April" (Well, it's actually a German song about the school shooter Robert Steinhäuser who killed 16 people in 2002 but I also think of Eric and Dylan when I listen to this one.)

- "Korn - Thoughtless" ("All of my hate cannot be bound, I will not be drowned by your thoughtless scheming so, you can try to tear me down, beat me to the ground, I will see you screaming." This part of the song reminds me of the shooters' homicidal thoughts and the bullying at Columbine, they wanted revenge.)

- "The Smiths - Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me" (This song describes mostly Dylan's feelings because he wanted to be loved and he was also hurt.

"Last night I dreamt
That somebody loved me
No hope, no harm
Just another false alarm
Last night I felt
Real arms around me
No hope, no harm
Just another false alarm
So, tell me how long
Before the last one?
And tell me how long
Before the right one?
The story is old - I know
But it goes on
The story is old - I know
But it goes on
Oh, goes on
And on
Oh, goes on
And on")

I could continue and mention more songs, but I think three are enough.

For some reason the song "She is Suffering" by Manic Street Preachers seems like a song Dylan would had liked. I mean it came out in 1994 so maybe he listened to it. It's all about how loving "her" is Suffering, seems fitting.

For some reason this song reminds me of columbine. As I've mentioned in other posts, I was a high school senior, 5 weeks from graduation myself, when Columbine happened. This song has a late 90s vibe to me in the "heavy as the setting sun" part and some of the lyrics seem appropriate to pre-massacre E&D. It's fairly new, but always gives me weird nostalgia when I hear it.

&Run by Sir Sly

You could be another face that I forget soon as I move along
Everybody makes mistakes, am I mistaken for the way I carry on?
You could show a little grace, but maybe things just went a bit too far
We are just who we are
No time for "what if"s and "what if not"s

Heavy as the setting sun
Oh, I'm counting all the numbers between zero and one
Happy, but a little lost
Well, I don't know what I don't know so I'll kick my shoes off and run (yeah)
Kick my shoes off and run
Kick my shoes off and run (run, we'll be running barefoot)
Kick my shoes off and run
Kick my shoes off and

You could be a happy bride and we could still be blissfully in love
Instead of being twenty-five and already feeling like you have had enough
You could be my one regret, infinitely spiraling me down
Sometimes the world feels loud

Heavy as the setting sun
Oh, I'm counting all the numbers between zero and one
Happy, but a little lost
Well, I don't know what I don't know so I'll kick my shoes off and run (yeah)

Kick my shoes off and run
Kick my shoes off and run (run, we'll be running barefoot)
Kick my shoes off and run
Kick my shoes off and

Run
Run, run, run
Run
Run, run, run

Heavy as the setting sun
Oh, I'm counting all the numbers between zero and one (run, run, run)
Happy, but a little lost
Well, I don't know what I don't know so I'll kick my shoes off and
Run into the setting sun

run into the setting sun
(Run, run, run) I'll run into the setting sun
(Run, run, run) I'll run into the setting sun

I once saw someone say that he wanted to rescue Lauren Townsend like the singer of this song wanted to rescue Anne Frank.

I think this song can be a memorial for all the innocent victims.

But now we must pick up every piece
Of the life we used to love
Just to keep ourselves
At least enough to carry on

And here's where your mother sleeps
And here is the room where your brothers were born
Indentations in the sheets
Where their bodies once moved but don't move anymore
And it's so sad to see the world agree
That they'd rather see their faces fill with flies
All when I'd want to keep white roses in their eyes

Lee (Columbine High Harmony) - Coma Cinema

"our ugly symmetry
meant everything to me

but after all this time
it's come to mean nothing

and my wrists somehow forgot
that quiet parking lot
or one year later
on your roof top"

Obviously, it's in the title. But I highlighted some of the lines that stand out to me as being about Eric and Dylan.

This song literally reminds me of them so much its kinda sad how perfectly fitting the song is, and especially every time hear you Sue call Dylan her sunshine boy, I also think of this song.

I also have to add I always thought if the lyrics were switched around in some parts the song would fit them entirely such as that verse with "world" being switched out with "school".... LOL additional random thought.

"Meteor rise from obscurity
All it took was a killing spree
And the whole SCHOOL was lying at your feet
Golden boy"

Jimmy Donn's Game Over, which was also Jeff Weise's favorite song. It reminds me not just of Eric, Dylan and Jeff but most school shooters in general, especially these lyrics. "Just so they can feel for a day, what I've been feeling all along" and "I wish like hell you would have cared back when I tried to reach out, with one bullet left, I turn and put the gun in my mouth"

"Brothers in Arms" by Dire Straits Sad

These mist covered mountains
Are a home now for me
But my home is the lowlands
And always will be

Some day you'll return to
Your valleys and your farms
And you'll no longer burn
To be brothers in arms

Through these fields of destruction
Baptisms of fire
I've witnessed your suffering
As the battle raged high

And though they did hurt me so bad
In the fear and alarm
You did not desert me
My brothers in arms

There's so many different worlds
So many different suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones

Now the sun's gone to hell
And the moon riding high
Let me bid you farewell
Every man has to die

But it's written in the starlight
And every line in your palm
We're fools to make war
On our brothers in arms

"Paranoid" by Black Sabbath. It feels like a peek inside Eric's brain.

Finished with my woman 'cause she couldn't help me with my mind
People think I'm insane because I am frowning all the time
All day long I think of things but nothing seems to satisfy
Think I'll lose my mind if I don't find something to pacify
Can you help me occupy my brain?
Oh yeah
I need someone to show me the things in life that I can't find
I can't see the things that make true happiness, I must be blind
Make a joke and I will sigh and you will laugh and I will cry
Happiness I cannot feel and love to me is so unreal
And so as you hear these words telling you now of my state
I tell you to enjoy life I wish I could but it's too late

dead girl walking-reprise from Heathers is reminding me of Eric today. Especially the line when Veronica sings to JD “I wish grownups understood, I wish we met before they convinced you life is war.”

The "Spiritual Black Dimensions" album by Dimmu Borgir, cuz I was listening the crap out of that album at that time. It was released 1 march '99. Other than that; Godlike and Son of a Gun by KMFDM.

This is a silly one: "Under Presure" by David Bowie and Freddie Mercury.

A duet about 2 guys, under pressure, whining about love. First imagine Dylan as Bowie and Eric as Freddie. The switch it up and picture Freddie's voice coming out of Dylans mouth. And of course they are singing at mics wearing thier trench coats and backward caps.

I am sure the boys would be mortified at this mental picture, but it does give me a laugh.

KMFDM - sycophant, no real meaning in the lyrics that relate to the massacre its just a song that when its played I think of 4/20/99 the album adios was released that day as well maybe that has something to do with it and Eric mentioning the coincidence of it. But sycophant is my favorite song on the adios album and it was released 4/20/99 so it just fits even though it is a slower hypnotic tune, not something most would relate to a massacre,

Rammstein-Mein herz brennt
Somehow makes me think of them whenever i listen tot it. Also Engel, for obvious reasons.
I'll go and see Rammstein live next month; i don't want to, but probably can't help thinking about E&D at some point during the show. Probably when they play Engel.

I was playing this for my six-month-old the other day and really HEARD the lyrics for maybe the first time. I mean, it's probably just about a break-up or something banal like that....but really LISTEN.

Korn's Faget. Because it's about singer Jonathan Davis' experience being bullied in high school.

The last verse especially:

This is the book I never read
These are the words I never said
This is the path I'll never tread
These are the dreams I'll dream instead
This is the joy that's seldom spread
These are the tears...
The tears we shed
This is the fear
This is the dread
These are the contents of my head
And these are the years that we have spent
And this is what they represent
And this is how I feel
Do you know how I feel?
'cause i don't think you know how I feel
I don't think you know what I feel
I don't think you know what I feel
You don't know what I feel

Also definitely “Torn”by Creed:

Peace is what they tell me
Love am I unholy
Lies are what they tell me
Despise you that control me

The peace is dead in my soul
I have blamed the reasons for
My intentions poor
Yes I'm the one who
The only one who
Would carry on this far

Torn, I'm filthy
Born in my own misery
Stole all that you gave me
Control you claim you save me

The peace is dead in my soul
I have blamed the reasons for
My intentions poor
Yes I'm the one who
The only one who
Would carry on this far

Peace in my head
Love in my head
Lies lies lies lies in my head.

The peace is dead in my soul
I have blamed the reasons for
My intentions poor
Yes I'm the one who
The only one who
Would carry on this far

The peace is dead in my soul
I have blamed the reasons for
My intentions poor
Yes I'm the one who
The only one who
Would carry on this far

And although neither boy was religious a few of the lines in “My Own Prison” by Creed are also relatable. Creed was pretty big in the late 90’s, especially on radio. This CD was released in 1997; wonder if either boy heard either song? 🤔

These are the words that tear you apart (So I'm sorry)
And these are the words that take you away (As two hands open doors)
And these are just words they'll tear you apart (Something serene)
When no one here will say what needs to say (To steal my life away)
Climbing on the way up,
Sizing up the competition,
Waiting for the right time,
Strike a chord and change your life
It's this air and time that's bringing me home again
A lame attempt at playing the part again now
In a place you don't know
And this stance as sturdy as leaves in a storm (Don't you ever think for one-second)
The premise and motive fueling blank faces (That I will forget)
The fool in a place you don't know (The reasons that I cried)
In this place, you don't
New medicines should ease this pain.
They're the only ailment for it. All over again

Rammstein's "Engel" and "Du Hast" and Marilyn Manson's "The Beautiful People" and "Sweet Dreams", though only because they were in SCMRPG.

Phantom Bride by Deftones. Hearing it like a million times while making my Eric compilation video has associated it permanently with Columbine.

Legendary by Welshly Arms.

I’m not sure if it is actually about Columbine but the lyrics fit for sure.

I've posted songs in here before although it's been some time. I normally associate songs from the mid to late 90's with Columbine. My brother was class of 99 [not at Columbine] and I was two years earlier. I feel I can relate to that era being close in age.

At any rate I like to listen to metal covers and one of my favorite is a solo artist named Leo Moracchioli. I came across a cover of the Verve-Bittersweet symphony and it reminded me of E & D.

Radio Dept.'s - A Token of Gratitude
It makes me think of all the innocence lost on the occasion
almost a feeling of the final night before the madness,
the anticipation of the boys & perhaps their private doubts
one last night of normalcy for every person caught up in the event
before everything changed.

Sorry Rammstein, but...

Translated:

Because the master has sent us
we're announcing the end
the horseman of maliciousness
is feeding his ulcer of jealousy

The truth is like a thunderstorm
it comes to you, you can hear it
oh, it's so bitter to proclaim it
it comes to you to destroy

Because the night was dying
we're announcing the doomsday
there'll be no mercy
run, run for your life

The truth is a windy choir
no angel will come to avenge you
these days they're your last
it will break you like a stick

It comes to you as the ruin

The truth is a windy choir
no angel will come to avenge you
these days they're your last
it will break you like a stick

I'm spamming this thread lmao.

I tried to scream
But my head was underwater
They called me weak

If I knew it all then would I do it again?
Would I do it again?
If they knew what they said would go straight to my head
What would they say instead?

Thoughts
Sometimes, I just can't control my thoughts
No medication's ever made them stop
All I think about is everything I'm not
Instead of everything I got
'Cause I'm scared they're all laughing, so I make the joke first
If I beat 'em to the punchline, then I can't get hurt
Yeah, I swear to God I'm trying, but I don't know how to be
How to be a good friend to me
'Cause sometimes I just feel like I'm a freak
When I wake up, I just don't like what I see
All the way from my head right down to my feet
I wish that I thought differently

Death by Cop - NegativeXP, even though it has footage of the hollywood shooting, I feel it reminds me of Eric's (sorta) plan to be killed by cops, or that he felt like he would. (who wouldn't?)
