Columbine and Cultural Context Empty
PostSubject: Columbine and Cultural Context   Columbine and Cultural Context Icon_minitimeTue Apr 28, 2020 1:45 am

I was really interested in talking about how new people who study the case now perceive Eric and Dylan and the things they say and do...

I know we talk about Eric and what he wrote vs how he felt, he was a hypocrite and he admits this. However a lot of the things they wrote about and the slurs they used, many of them were things people said back then. Especially teenagers who had no context or thought to what it meant nor did they care. So do you think people who may have not grown up during that time look at them through the lens of today?

I would assume that they would have to. Most of us best evaluate a situation or event based upon our own experiences and, as cliche as it sounds, some things were quite different 20 years ago. Certain words and phrases that people used to throw around then are practically forbidden now. Even computers and the Internet, it's like an entirely different entity now compared to back then. Just think of the Eric in Columbine video where he's spinning that huge cell phone! I bet there are some younger Columbine researchers that would be asking, "What the hell is that?" initially!
