Forgive me as I know it's just a meme and what we are told (or 11:17, even more bizarrely) but I don't think they've got the plan that failed right. Think much, much more is explained by this idea: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Cafeteria bomb 1: 11:20
It makes the fire alarm go off, so the library evacuates right to where the perps are standing. There is one cafeteria exit, at the bottom of the stairs, on that side as well. Bombs seemed to be positioned to make it so they had to run out that way for the first one.
But Patti came out and interrupted them (I know the usual story tells us this is later, but it couldn't have been for various reasons) for "looking too real", telling them to "knock it off" as they were setting up shooting, apparently. That's why they are shooting outside without any bombs, and only check on the bombs after shooting. Makes no sense unless interrupted. First shots by all witness accounts at the west entrance, and Patti comes out the west entrance.
On top of the bomb not working. Dylan probably tossed a pipe bomb at it when he descended the stairs, assuming he really went inside.
Car Bomb 1, Dylan's car: 11:30
It is to get cops. They go straight to the windows in front of it in the library around this time. "Pigs are here".
But it fails too.
Then Dylan says "Fine, I'll just start shooting."
Then the library massacre really kicks off. And they repeatedly say the library or school is gonna blow up. None of that makes sense if they switched plans to "just shoot everyone" because "the bombs" failed all before they started shooting.
However, we are left with the curiosity of them shooting people while saying they don't have to; that they will die from a bomb anyway. What explains that?
Cafeteria Bomb 2: 11:35
This is when they stop shooting, stop saying the library is gonna explode, leave the library, and leave to try and make the last cafeteria bomb explode manually.
When the second cafeteria bomb failed. After the car bomb failed, they were hoping to get the cops inside so they could get them with the last cafeteria bomb.
The wandering period seems to me best explained as looking to see if the cops were inside elsewhere.
Car Bomb 2, Eric's car: 11:40
It seemed to be for the six cafeteria exits on the opposite side the perps started on with the original plan. Again, not only does it make sense, it seems the placement of the bombs fits.
Surely it was some time after 11:35, when they were out of the library and so couldn't see it.
They return to the library and go to the window to see out to the last car bomb. Could see it didn't work. That was the last big bomb. Was time for suicide.
But of course the meme is right in so far as after 11:15 is what mattered, when A lunch started. Also agree it wished to maximize casualties. Perhaps the diversion was at 11:15, and perhaps the intervals of 10 minutes, 5 minutes, and 5 minutes for the bombs is explained by the first getting an extra 5 thanks to the diversion.
