Wellington Menezes de Oliveira (Rio de Janeiro, July 13, 1987 — Rio de Janeiro, April 7, 2011), aged 23, was a student at the Tasso da Silveira Municipal School up to the 8th grade (currently 9th grade ). Wellington was the adopted son of Dicéa Menezes de Oliveira, the youngest of five siblings and was adopted as a baby. His biological mother suffered from mental problems and even tried to kill herself. He is described by family members and acquaintances as a quiet, shy, introspective boy who did not get into trouble or break rules. His adoptive mother, who died in 2010, was a Jehovah's Witness; Wellington also attended the religion, but had never become an adherent. He was a quiet, shy person and spent most of his time surfing the internet.

In an interview given on April 13, family members confirmed that Wellington was very closed and introspective, that he only related to people over the internet, had few friends and did not participate in family life, spending almost all his time in front of the computer. Being adopted by a woman over fifty years old and having brothers who were already married, he was treated differently by his mother, who imagined having to leave him very early due to his age. She is described as a safe haven for Wellington and her death aggravated his psychiatric illness, already known to the family and with an attempt at treatment with a psychologist, which was abandoned by the boy. He attended meetings of Jehovah's Witnesses with his mother, who is very religious, having not become a follower of the religion and also had no connection with Islamic groups, as the media initially reported, although he sought other religions when he disconnected from Jehovah's Witnesses. Relatives say they are surprised by the crime and afraid to expose themselves publicly.

Wellington refers this way, in a letter, to the bullying he suffered at school: "Many times it happened to me that I was attacked by a group, and everyone around me mocked, had fun with the humiliations I suffered, without caring about my feelings". And, according to the testimony of a former classmate: "Once at school they took Wellington upside down, put him inside the toilet and flushed. Some people urged the girls: 'Go there, mess with him'. Or even the encouragement of themselves: 'Let's play with him, let's make fun of him'. The girls rubbed their hands on him (...). This mistreatment happened in 2001. That year, on September 11, the biggest terrorist attack of all time became obsession for Wellington".

After Dona Dicéa's death, the brothers searched the young man's computer and discovered that he was doing a lot of research on weapons. It turned out that he had bought two revolvers and a quick loader, as well as taken shooting lessons, and there is evidence that he had been planning the action since the previous year, always with the intent of revenge and with admiration for terrorist acts. During the execution of the massacre, he committed suicide after being shot in the belly. His body was buried in the Caju Cemetery on April 22, after fifteen days at the IML, without the presence of any relatives, only the gravediggers, in a shallow grave and without a tombstone. None of the procedures he had asked for in the suicide letter were performed.

If you are Brazilian you should translate information on wellington and release it in English. There is only so many details you can find in English. There is many Brazilian documentaries / news segments on this event but they are in portugese with no subtitles.

I found some of wellingtons rarer videos that had English subtitles a while ago but since they have disappeared.

Wellington does have a gravestone, number 7708
