Honestly asking why feel pointless sometimes. We can dig and dig through the evidence and then retrace our steps back and start again, but in the end none of it really matters. Some people are just born capable of doing terrible things. To say its because they were bullied or because they hated society isn't a good answer. There are people born into much worse conditions than Eric and Dylan ever suffered and yet 99% of them would never consider pulling an "NBK". Eric wanted to kill people and he was willing to die doing it. Dylan wanted to die and was willing to kill to make it happen. People like them murder and commit suicide everyday. Hell kids continue to take guns to schools to this day. Trying to think of an acceptable answer as to why Columbine happened will make your head spin.

Why?

The best answer I can give is because they wanted to. Other factors like bullying, video games, and psychiatric drugs are present in thousands of kids' lives, but do not lead to Columbine.

Ultimately, whatever profound personality problems Eric and Dylan had are what caused Columbine.

best way to look at it is Eric wanted to kill people, but not be locked away by pea-brained law enforcers and Dylan wanted to die, and both of those came together, Eric killed and Dylan died, they both got what they wanted and Eric died and Dylan killed, they both did what the other one wanted.

Maybe Eric felt like he would rather have been born a lion, he would have felt free and been able to hunt, fight to survive, death around every corner, sleep with one eye open, kill or be killed, mate with females without worrying about finding someone who fits with you and all the other natural tasks and he felt that humans aren't free and their life style has been artificially changed and he looked at animals and how we are supposed to be living and he didn't want to be apart of this fantasy life that humans have modified over the centuries. Jobs, marriage, studying, working out and making yourself better to be 'worthy' enough for others to accept you, he felt that that was all bullshit and he just wanted to do what creatures were put on this world to do, what he felt humans are supposed to be doing.

I wonder how Eric would answer this question?

About the whole 'why' question, I am fairly certain it was a process of building the whole thing into reality. I am pretty sure Dylan planted the seed in Eric's head and Eric, fascinated by violence, started building a fantasy... Talking to each other, yes-manning each other to finally getting guns and as Eric would say 'point of no return', it slowly grew from a fantasy to reality.

Now the real question is, where and how and why did Dylan get such ideas into his head and such 'killing spree' thoughts... As we can see him writing about this as early as '97.
