Connecticut supreme court orders 35 of Lanza's documents to be released

The state Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that more than 35 documents and journals belonging to Sandy Hook Elementary School shooter Adam Lanza will be released to the public, a key victory in the Hartford Courant’s five-year battle to obtain the information.

The Courant requested access to the documents that state police removed from the Yogananda Street home in Newtown where Lanza killed his mother Nancy Lanza before driving to the school and killing 26 people, including 20 first graders, before killing himself.

In a unanimous decision, the court ordered a lower court judge to reverse himself and deny the state’s appeal of a Freedom of Information Commission decision that ordered the items released.

“Since the day of the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School, the Courant has worked to advance the understanding of how so heinous a tragedy could happen and we applaud today’s decision as we feel these documents are necessary for us to tell a complete story in our reporting,” said Andrew Julien, the Courant’s publisher and editor-in-chief. “Understanding what a mass killer was thinking not only paints a clearer picture of the individual, it helps us identify and understand red flags that could be part of a prevention formula for future mass shootings.”

The state attorney general’s office declined comment Tuesday. The state could ask the Connecticut Supreme Court to reconsider or ask the U.S. Supreme Court to hear the case.

Yeah, it is great because it is really difficult to have a clear picture of Adam. Not only how he looked at the time when he was 20 but also how he thought. I didn't know he had a "journal", I hope he really wrote personal, intimate things that would truly hint at how he felt and thought. But I am not sure it is going to be such a personal thing, I cannot even imagine Adam writing personal things somewhere. In fact even if I have no issue acknowledging that he was probably very unhappy, a part of me cannot imagine him feeling something, because there are so few documents to base our thoughts on. I can't wait to see what is going to be released, I didn't expect anything to change after almost 6 years.

I thought this would never occur.

I hope that the documents regarding his political views and other beliefs are included in the release.

um he had word documents about why he thought women are selfish, his opinions on relationships, ideal companion, culture and voting. those are all pretty intimate to me.

Are these documents recovered from his hard drive or from somewhere else? I know his opinions on pedophiles are included.
I just hope release does not inspire any copycats.....yikes that would be terrifying. I just read a study between how media covers school shootings can be directly correlated to inspiring copycats of the crime. If they cover how the shooter acted,what he was wearing, weapons used, kill count etc. there will be another shooting within TWO weeks. CP could mean a naked 17 year old, cops dont care and journalists definetly dont, and I think in Paddocks case it was jailbait.
But regardless of content I think that even the most vile rape content scores below murder if you really want to make a scale.

I didn't mean to make a scale, it would not be appropriate I think, this is only how I "feel" about those crimes.

I'll read the part in the book, but I still think medias got overexcited about something that was at best insignificant and at worse only a little ambiguous but nothing serious. But I may be wrong so that's why I'll try to read that chapter.

I find this so great, the police should not be able to retain information. The taxpayer financed the investigation so they should get to see the results and contents and investigators need to stop thinking they are the only ones "able" to "handle" such content.

Yeah, he missed some big mass shootings especially Las Vegas. The shooting in Crimea and Parkland were quite deadly too... I don't know if he was also interested in terrorist attacks because Orlando, Sutherland Springs and the Bataclan were also very deadly.
