What IF?

Hi there Girls & Boys,

Seen as things seem to have run dry regarding new information & evidence regarding Columbine, I thought we could make up some "What If Scenarios"

It could be anything you want.

You can choose to answer what you think would have realistically happened after said "What If Scenario"

I shall go first......

WHAT IF : After Dylan thumps down the stairs, early on that fateful day, he shouts, "BYE", to his Mum. He slams the door behind him and jumps into his BMW. Turning the key, there is nothing. The engine is DEAD! He has his trench coat on with the shotgun underneath, tucked away at one side. He keeps turning the key and smashing the gas pedal. NOTHING! It's 1999, no mobile phones. Meanwhile, Eric is waiting and pacing around his bedroom. He thinks, "Has Dylan chickened out? Has Dylan been caught? Has Dylan broken and told his parents about the Ultimate Plan?"

Meanwhile, the BMW is completely dead. All the mags and shotgun shells are at Erics house. All Dylan has in his possession are his empty Sawn Off Shotgun & Empty Tec-9....The car is DONE! He's going nowhere...

What do you think would happen next?

Oh wait - that did happen and Jeffco did nothing!  (Thinking of the multiple warnings from the Brooks family to the police).

What? Who? The closest I can think of to being another potential "recruit" was Eric making comments towards Chris Morris about setting up trip bombs and killing jocks. What page of the book was this?

I wish I could remember.  I rented the book from the library but I don't have it anymore.  She specifically mentioned Mark Manes and then another person (not Phil) as being talked to by Eric specifically; I can't recall if she mentioned the name of the other person.  You could be right about it being Chris Morris.  Who knows what the conversation actually was and whether it was just talk or actual recruiting.  Again, it's Sue's perspective; what Chris and Mark Manes would have considered "joking around" could actually be considered "recruiting" by Sue now having the after-the-event hindsight and trying to playdown Dylan's role.  It was like midway through the book, I can't remember the chapter or page number. But even with foreknowledge, Jeffco still would have done nothing. People didn't take these things seriously back then, and even for a long time afterward it was considered a "fluke", can't happen in my neighborhood kind of thing... when I was in high school the bomb squad was called at least 3 times because people wanted to get out of classes for a couple hours so they'd report a bomb threat. No one thought anything of it.

Yes...I remember reading this in Sue's book. Great post. So difficult to seperate a passing joke of "blowing up the school" to actually seriously trying to recruit an accomplice. Jeffco were fuckin useless. Before, during and after the massacre IMO.
