It's not as fascinating when you realize that it wasn't a "muder castle" at all and that it was basically one gigantic embellishment by the press. It was just a really garish hotel that he set up for the World's Fair. It was a cash grab. There were a few secret rooms, but there's absolutely no evidence whatsoever that he used them for anything other than storage. He claimed to kill 27 people, but this was bullshit. In fact, he only killed one person verifiably, and it's thought that he also killed up to nine more. But, the person(s) that he allegedly killed weren't random people that he trapped in his hotel. He knew them all on a personal basis and had a reason to kill them. He was a con-artist who killed anyone who got in his way, basically. He wasn't a bloodthirsty supervillain that made hotel designed for killing people, as interesting as that would be.
