Subject: FULL LIST of music mentioned by EH and DK (LONG) Thu Jul 31, 2014 8:30 am
There was a post about this subject just below me... but whatever. I was going to make this a comment there but I spent so damn long on this!
This is bloody long. All songs are listed because they posted/wrote their lyrics, or mentioned them. Artists aren't in alphabetical order, but the songs are, because I'm lovely. No-one seems to have posted this?
Click through the links for each song hosted on YouTube. Albums are listed alphabetically, not by artist. I deleted all ALBUM links because it was so hard to find full videos for each album - some of them seem to have disappeared into nothingness.
MENTIONED BY ERIC HARRIS:
KMFDM: KMFDM - A Drug Against War - mentioned in a note from Eric to Dylan KMFDM - Anarchy - Eric wrote the lyrics in Nate Dykeman's yearbook KMFDM - Dogma - Eric wrote the lyrics in Dylan's yearbook (1998) KMFDM - Godlike - Quoted various times, and a popular topic for Eric and Dylan. Quoted by Eric in AOL chats, his diaries, friend's yearbooks, etc. KMFDM - Power - Lyrics on Eric's webpage KMFDM - Son of a Gun - Lyrics on Eric's webpage
Eric Harris mentioned the KMFDM albums Adios, Agogo.
RAMMSTEIN: Rammstein - Bestrafe Mich - lyrics found on Eric's website Rammstein - Buck Dich - referenced in Eric's journal Rammstein - Das Modell - Eric translated the song into English on his website Rammstein - Du Hast - translated on Eric's website Rammstein - Engel - translated on Eric's website, and also referenced in a note to Dylan Rammstein - Heirate Mich - lyrics were on Eric's website Rammstein - Herzeleid - lyrics on Eric's website Rammstein - Klavier - lyrics on Eric's website Rammstein - Kokain - translated on Eric's website Rammstein - Rammstein (Ramstein) - lyrics on website Rammstein - Tier - lyrics on website Rammstein - Weisses Fleisch - mentioned in a rant about wanting violent sex with a woman, and that it was the "perfect song for me" in November 1998. Rammstein - Wilder Wein - Eric wore a shirt that read WILDER WEIN in the basement tapes. It translates to 'wild wine'. The song was also referenced in a note to Dylan. Rammstein - Wollt ihr der Bett in Flammen sehen? - referenced in school planner
RECEIPTS were found for the album Stripped, which included four remixes and a live video. The single is a cover of Depeche Mode's song of the same name.
NOTE: Rammstein songs on YouTube are in low quality, for some reason. You can pick up torrents anywhere easily. As a fan of the band, I'd just like to note the nature of their music... the subject of their songs range from murder, rape, necrophilia, and incest to the tenderness of first love and the loss of virginity. Some songs Eric quotes are about self-loathing (e.g. Kokain... it's a long story). It's a strange band, but it would definitely bolster Eric's sense of masculinity. Many stop listening after hearing English translations of their songs...
POP WILL EAT ITSELF: Pop Will Eat Itself - Ich Bin Ein Auslander - sketched in Eric's notebook
L7: L7 - Shitlist - found notably on the Natural Born Killers soundtrack. "Shitlists" were referenced widely in Eric and Dylan's journals, and each wrote one of their own.
NINE INCH NAILS: NIN - Closer - mentioned in Eric's journal during the same rant as 'Weisses Fleisch" (dated 11/17/98 and can be found here.
GRAVITY KILLS: Gravity Kills - Guilty - lyrics found on Eric's website.
MISC. ALBUMS: Fly - Bombthreat: Before She Blows - mentioned in the basement tapes. He mentions that Susan Dewitt can keep the album. Nine Inch Nails - Broken - mentioned in Eric's 11/17/98 diary entry. "oh... thats something else... that one NIN video I saw, broken or closer or something, the where the guy is kidnapped and tortured like hell... actual hell. I want to do that too". The Electric Hellfire Club - Burn, Baby, Burn! - receipt found Science of the Gods - Eat Static - receipt found Die Krupps - Fatherland - receipt found Front 242 - Front by Front - receipt found Industrial Rock (VAR.) - compilation. Receipt found. Industrial War: The Agony and the Ecstasy of Industrial Music (VAR.) - receipt found. Tracklist here. Funker Vogt - Killing Time Again - receipt found Vanessa Williams - Next - receipt found Orbital - Orbital - receipt found Nosferatu - Rise - receipt found Leæther Strip - Serenade for the Dead - receipt found Orbital - Snivilisation - receipt found Loreena McKennitt - The Mask and Mirror - receipt found Trip Factor - Trip Factor - receipt found Front 242 - Tyranny (For You) - receipt found The Orb - U.F.Orb - receipt found Ultimate Gabber Trance: The Beats From Hell (VAR.) - receipt found Lights of Euphoria - Voices - receipt found
The Future Sound Of London - ??? - unknown album. Name cut off receipt.
RECEIPTS FROM ANGELO'S CD'S & TAPES, MEDIA PLAY.
MISC. ARTISTS: Marilyn Manson - mentioned in a school assignment. Eric stated that he hated that people often didn't pay attention to the lyrics of bands like "Rammstein, KMFDM, NIN, M.M." ... in context, M.M most definitely stood for Marilyn Manson. The Scorpions - on a section of Eric's webpage titled "news", there is an article called "rammdownfall". It includes quotes from people emailing him, such as "...OF COURSE THEY'RE ANOTHER "FAKE" "HYPE" "FROM GERMANY", [JUST LIKE].... "THE SCORPIONS"...". The Smashing Pumpkins - Eric continued to discuss his emails about Rammstein, writing "soon i'll receive complaints about the gnashing bumpkins....".
BANDS MENTIONED ON 'YOU KNOW WHAT I LOVE/HATE?': LOVES: The Prodigy
HATES: 311 Blink-182 Enya Five Iron Frenzy Hanson Less Than Jake Lil Kim Mase Master P Missy Elliot Puff Daddy Reel Big Fish The Aquabats The Pietasters Will Smith
MENTIONED BY DYLAN KLEBOLD:
NINE INCH NAILS (NIN): Nine Inch Nails - Closer - the lyrics of this song are written in his school planner, and small quotes are written in his love letters. Nine Inch Nails - Gave Up - lyrics are written in his school diary. Nine Inch Nails - Happiness In Slavery - referenced in journal "Almost happiness is slavery – to be real, people (gods) are slaves to the majority of zombies, but we know & love being superior". Nine Inch Nails - Hurt - referenced in journal. "I have lost my emotions ... like in Hurt the song. NIN". Nine Inch Nails - Now I'm Nothing/Terrible Lie (live) - Directly from the 1991 Lollapalooza setlist, the name is written in his school planner, with the annotation "kool song". Nine Inch Nails - Piggy - referenced in his journal ... “the NIN song Piggy is good for thought writing". Nine Inch Nails - Something I Can Never Have - The phrase is used multiple times in his journal ("I’ll give the phony shit up in a second want TRUE love ... I just want something I can never have" ... "I just want something I can never have / The story of my existence") and it is also referenced. He writes that the song should be played over the "lyrics" section of his webpage. Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral - the opening track of the NIN album of the same name. Mentioned various times - the symbolism of a 'downward spiral' is common in Dylan's writings. The album is about a man who's mental wellbeing is deteriorating. Dylan seems to identify with the man a lot. Some quotes are "True true I hate everything, why can’t I die ... not fair. I want pure bliss ... to be cuddling with [REDACTED], who I think I love deeper than ever ... I was hollow, thought I was right. Another form of the Downward Spiral..." ...and... "The lost highway, & downward spiral never end". Nine Inch Nails - The Perfect Drug - from the Lost Highway soundtrack, a film that is mentioned frequently in Dylan's journal.
L7: L7 - Shitlist - found notably on the Natural Born Killers soundtrack. "Shitlists" were referenced widely in Eric and Dylan's journals, and each wrote one of their own.
THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS The Chemical Brothers - Block Rockin' Beats - it was noted by Dylan that it should be played over the "techno" section of his webpage. The Chemical Brothers - Chico's Groove - the song is written out several times in his school planner. Also here in Nate Dykeman's yearbook. The Chemical Brothers - Life Is Sweet (Daft Punk Mix) - the song name is written in his school planner.
WHITE ZOMBIE: White Zombie - Black Sunshine - Dylan writes that this song should be played over the "hate" section of his website.
THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS: They Might Be Giants - Particle Man - Dylan wrote for it to be played over the "hacking" section of his webpage (...wha??)
MARILYN MANSON: Marilyn Manson - Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This - Dylan wrote that it was to be played over the "koolios" section of his website.
ALICE IN CHAINS: Alice In Chains - I Stay Away - Dylan wrote that this was to be played over the "other cool mus." section of his webpage.
THE SMASHING PUMPKINS: The Smashing Pumpkins - Beautiful The Smashing Pumpkins - Disarm - Dylan wrote that it was to be played over the "my thoughtz" section of the webpage.
THE GEORGE BAKER SELECTION: The George Baker Selection - Little Green Bag - Dylan wrote that this should be played over the "moviez" section of his webpage. Most notably, this song appears on the Reservoir Dogs soundtrack, which was directed by Quentin Tarantino, the same man who directed Natural Born Killers.
KMFDM: KMFDM - Brute - the name of the song is written in his school planner.
THE OFFSPRING: The Offspring - Americana - not referenced by Dylan in any writings, but in the Breakfast Run video, the song can be heard playing in the car. The passengers are singing along - Dylan most likely included.
2PAC: 2Pac - Hit 'Em Up - the lyrics are written in Dylan's school planner.
NOTE: I find it peculiar that Rammstein is not mentioned specifically once up to this point. I would have expected it to have been... and KMFDM is pretty rare, too! I'm thinking it was mostly Eric's thing.
MISC. ALBUMS: Autechre - Amber - written on Dylan's shopping list Smashing Pumpkins - Boxset - featured on shopping list The Chemical Brothers - Loops of Fury - album name is listed in school planner KMFDM - Naive - a Naive sticker was stuck to Dylan's car Nowhere Soundtrack (VAR.) - written on shopping list Rammstein - Sehnsucht - album title is listed in school diary several times The Doom Generation Soundtrack (VAR.) - featured on shopping list Vampires Soundtrack (VAR.) - featured on shopping list
HERE is a link to the shopping list.
MISC. ARTISTS: The Chemical Brothers - essay written in Chemical Brothers font (will update when I find this again...) and also had a sticker on his car. Rammstein - Rammstein sticker is on his car. Ceiba - written on shopping list. Prana - written on shopping list. Spacetime Continuum - written on shopping list, alongside "any Xpt Sea Biscuit" Renegade Soundwave - shopping list Marilyn Manson - in this interview, Sue Klebold indicates that Dylan had a Manson poster on the wall of his room, but he pressed that he didn't listen to the lyrics. Dylan also had a Marilyn Manson sticker on his car, and draws symbols similar to the Antichrist Superstar logo in his school planner. DJ Spooky - written in school planner. Phantom Planet - featured on a list titled "get bak!". This most probably meant Dylan had lent the album to someone and needed it back. Atari Teenage Riot - not to be confused with the song 'Teenage Riot' by the Ataris (as I first thought... :/). The logo and band name are both written in his school planner. Hanson - Dylan stated that he hated Hanson on his webpage plans.
... AND THAT'S ALL, FOLKS! Jesus. That took like 3 hours... all for what I expected to be a simple comment. Phew. Time to move on with life.
I think we can easily say that Eric was far more into music than Dylan, and despite what I thought before researching this, they actually had pretty different tastes. It's strange, because they're often lumped into one box.

Interesting... Not much metal on there, I was expecting some Slayer, maybe Sepultura, Pantera ect... Really surprised they didn't listen to this. (Not because of what they did... Just because of some of the stuff they had).

I didnt see in the you know what I hate/love list, those bands and singers, but maybe I just missed that part and Ive thought too that is definitely weird that Rammstein and KMFDM weren't very mention by Dylan but it could be for the different things that he used to express. Thanks for making this, I bet that it took you a lot of time but is great.

Great post. It's also great to have the links to many of the songs.
We also talked about their music tastes a while back here which may be of interest to some: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
EDIT: Here is the original section I posted in the above thread about E/D's music. It is not in any particular order. There are also more songs / bands E/D may have listened to included in the above thread.
Quote :
KMFDM Both boys particularly Eric made countless references to the band, I think it's safe to assume KMFDM was a favorite. Eric mentions "Songs from bands like...KMFDM" pg (26113) and "I need some KMFDM" pg (26173) There is an order form from "KMFDM inc" for Eric which includes Godlike poster, tour poster and video special pg (26186) He also mentions "KMFDM is a favorite of mine" in his 25 things essay pg (26189) Eric writes the song title "Kein Mitlied" pg (26010) Eric writes the lyrics to the songs "Son of a Gun" pg(26552) "Waste" pg(26553) and "Stray Bullet" pg(26555) Eric quoted Anarchy in Nate Dykeman's yearbook pg(10713) He also quoted Dogma in Dylan's yearbook pg(26496) Dylan writes "KMFDM - Brute" pg(26441) Dylan also wore a KMFDM shirt in the "interview" with no sound with what looks like the Xtort album cover picture. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Eric is wearing KMFDM Tour 97 shirt in the E.I.C video There are numerous KMFDM drawings throughout the boys documents pg (25979) A receipt from Angelo's CD's and Tapes indicates one of the boys bought the KMFDM album Agogo. pg(26181)
Rammstein Eric particularly is full of Rammstein quotes all over the place "then you can just Buck Dich" pg (26005) in his rant about the van break in. He frequently mentions the band in his school planner pg (26077) and in his school work pg (26189). Like with KMFDM there is evidence Eric translated lyrics to the following songs: Du Hast pg (26586 - 7), Du Riechst So Gut pg (26589) Engle pg (26591 -2), Guilty (26608), Herzleid pg (26623), Kokain pg (26633),Heirate Mich pg (26699 -0), Buck Dich pg (26706), Tier pg (26707), Bestrafe Mich pg (26708), Klavier pg (26709) Wilder Wein pg (26766) Weises Fleisch pg (26764) Some of these have "Translated by Reb" typed on them so i'm pretty sure they all belonged to Eric and they are with his school essays. Eric also had the sticker in the rear window of his car and had a Rammstein T-Shirt on in his Junior year school picture: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] "Rammstein" is mentioned in Dylans journal pg (26452) One of the boys purchased "Stripped" CD
Dylan mentions "the KMFDM and Rammstein concerts" in Eric's junior yearbook pg(26238)
Angelo's Cd's and Tapes Music Recipts: "Lights of Eu Voices" - Lights of Euphoria - Voices pg (26179) "Electric Hel Burn Baby Bu" - Electric Hellfire Club - Burn Baby Burn pg (26179) "Funker Vogt Killing Time" - Funker Vogt - Killing Time Again pg (26179) "Die Krupps - Fatherland" pg (26181) "Nosferatu - Rise" pg (26181) "Front 242 - Front by Fro" - Front 242 - Front by Front pg (26181) "Front 242 - Tyranny" - Front 242 - Tyranny (For you) pg (26182) Eric mentions liking "242" pg(26189) "Imports - Imports CD's " - The Imports?? pg (26185) "Orb Uf Orb" The Orb - U.F Orb pg (26185)
Media Play Recipts "McKennitt L / Mask Mi.." - Loreena Mckennitt - The Mask and Mirror pg (26180) Could be Eric's purchase as he mentions liking Loreena Mckennitt pg(26189) "Var / Industrial War" - Various Artists - Industrial War The Agony and the Ecstasy of Industrial Music pg (26180) “Leather Strip / Serena” – Leather Strip – Serenade For The Dead pg (26180) "Orbital / Snivilisatio” - “Orbital – Snivilisation” pg (26187) Eric mentions liking "Orbital" pg(26189) There are numerous references to "Halycon" by Dylan pg(26406), (26412) and (26414) he could be familiar with the song of the same name by Orbital " Var / Ultimate in Gabb” - "Various Artists - Ultimate in Gabber Trance - Beats From Hell" pg (26186) "Future sounds of lond" - Future Sounds of London pg(26184) a second CD was bought pg(26186) "Eat Static - Scienc of" - Eat Static - Science of The Gods pg(26184)
Dylan writes “Chicos Groove – The Chemical Brothers” pg (25989)
"Siamese Dream" Smashing Pumpkins Album pg(26376) Dylan writes the lyrics to the Smashing Pumpkins song "Beautiful" pg(26470)
Dylan writes ‘NIN’ Nine Inch Nails at the bottom of pg (25981) He mentions "Downward Spiral" pg (26398) the NIN album, and often draws spirals in his journal pg(26479) and in his school planner pg(26456) he mentions the song Hurt pg(26401) Dylan also references other NIN songs such as "Now I'm Nothing" pg(26445) "Something I can never have" pg(26398) "Piggy" pg(26389) Eric quotes lyrics from the NIN song Closer pg(26106) as does Dylan pg(26457)
In his planner Dylan writes “I’m not a trendy asshole don’t give a fuck if its good enuf for you” pg(26436) These are lyrics from The Offspring song Smash, the song Americana is also playing in the breakfast run video although this may not have been Dylan's choice
Dylan also writes "Chemical Brothers" on pg(26436) he references "Loops of Fury" a Chemical Brothers EP pg(26411)
Lyrics to the song "Guilty by Gravity Kills" printed on pg(26643)
Dylan writes "Life is sweet Daft Punk Mix" - Daft Punk remix of Chemical Brothers - Life Is Sweet pg(26462)
Dylan "Atari Teenage Riot" pg(26462)
Eric writes in 'You know what I love' The "Prodigy"
Eric wills the "Fly CD" to Susan in the Basement Tapes - Fly - Bombthreat Before She Blows [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Ohh duuuude! I didn't see this! It was stupid of me to have missed it. Is it OK to update this thread with added info from that one? Or would you prefer me to just leave it? Will credit you, of course. I see I have a few things written wrong, too. Is it okay to kind of piece together your text about the album receipts with mine? I just really like the idea of finally having it all stored in one place (albeit a simplified version)... I'm one of those people who hoards info, ha.

I grew up listening to Pantera/Sepultura still listen to them now (very much still a metaller/grunger). But i wouldn't touch any of E/D's music besides Alice in Chains. Those bands are actually good Plus i can really notice the difference in genre's between the 2 by the music alone, aswell as lyrically.

One very interesting thing about this post Cal is the fact that Dylan either had a website or was planning a website ... It is unfortunate we do not have any evidence of what Dylan's website looked like or may have looked like but thank you for some of the information revealed here about it.
As far as I know, we only have evidence from and references from Eric's website(s).

The thread was made a while back so it was easy to miss. I don't mind if you update your thread with the information in the one i created, that is fine. It would be good to have everything in the same place. I am also an information hoarder so i understand what you mean.

About the artist you wrote that Eric hated. He didn't hate Enya. Actually, Susan DeWitt said he had an Enya cd in his bedroom, and I don't see any mention of Enya in is 'YOU KNOW WHAT I HATE' website. and you forgot to mention: Bills Dog Vernes. Also you forgot to mentioned KMFDM songs: WASTE and STRAY BULLET, that wrote the lyrics for an essay and what the songs meant to him. He also did that SON Of A GUN.

Saying that I like 90% of the stuff E & D listen too, as well as Pantera etc etc…

OMG BLINK 182. STOP pretending to be 'punk' it pisses me off and it just makes you look stupid.
Thank You so much for sharing this. I hyperventilated a little bit when I saw L7 had made the cut LOL.
They might have killed a lot of people, but at least they had good taste in music.

Ha Hanson. Does anyone really like them? Aquabats, surprised they knew who they were. Ska to industrial wide swing in music. Blink 182 by 1999 was pretty boy bandish.

I saw Blink-182 in concert many times. I remember back in 2003 going to the "DollaBill Tour" show where tickets were supposed to be only $1. I ended up paying $600 for 6 from a scalper. Lol. I must've been nuts, I would never do that now. I also drove all the way to Boston to see Good Charlotte perform at the River Rave that year too. What fun days they were.
Anyhow, I always considered bands like Blink-182, Good Charlotte, All American Rejects, Simple Plan, Yellowcard, Taking Back Sunday, The Starting Line, New Found Glory and the tons of other bands that sound like that to be pop-punk music and definitely not just "punk" music.
When I think of "punk" I think of bands like The Sex Pistols or Social Distortion. I don't really pay attention to Blink-182 anymore because they are not the same as they were back then. Tom's left the band and they really should leave the band in the past but someone is always trying to revive it. As for Dylan or Eric liking Blink-182. Well, for one, Blink didn't accomplish mainstream success until after "Enema of the State" came out. That was after June of 1999. Before that, most people didn't even know who they were. Although, I'm thinking Eric may have mentioned hating Blink-182 or maybe it was Green Day? And second, nothing else that they listened to was pop-punk, so chances are this would definitely not be what they were interested in.

Dylan Klebold's "Wrath" shirt was probably based on a KMFDM song by the same name.

It's possible. The song did come out before the massacre. Oh and there was something I wanted to ask you earlier but forgot and so I don't forget again, I'll ask you now. I was reading about Budd Dwyer and I read that Faith No More wrote a song about him. Did you know about that or know the song? Because I know that's one of your favorite bands.

That song was by Filter. It's called "Hey Man, Nice Shot". Faith No More's songs have no meaning behind them.

I think the FNM song you're talking about is The World Is Yours.
As for what you said above (Yeah I'm admitting this after bagging out Blink 182) I do have a bit of a soft spot for Good Charlotte :-) When Little Things came out I really enjoyed the film clip and that he thought his Dad was a dick too.
I guess I didn't really get into the pop punk scene in the 90's because I was a real big dork and listened to stuff from 10-15 years earlier. It didn't make me popular with the cool crowd but I ended up with a pretty well rounded musical education (Well... I'd like to think so lol)

He didn't kill himself "to" anything. He shot himself with a .357 during a news conference due to false charges being laid against him which could've saw him spend the rest of his natural life behind bars.

Yea, that's the song I'm talking about. "The World is Yours" by Faith No More. I read that it was about Dwyer. It's a different song than the one by Filter.

Exactly, Dude Ranch which was the album before and came out in 97? Too lazy to check was their last "punk" type album before becoming a boy band.

Yea, Dude Ranch came out in 1997. Personally, I don't think they started changing until after Tom joined Angels and Airwaves. The songs on Enema of the State and Take Off Your Pants and Jacket were just as ridiculous as their earlier songs from Dude Ranch, Buddha and Cheshire Cat. Then their self titled album came out in 2003 which was a pretty good album and then it was all down hill after that. Tom joined AVA, the other 2 created +44 and then they tried reforming the band which was a bust because Tom left for a second time.
I don't know, maybe you consider them a boy band. To me, they are pop punk. When I think of boy bands I think of bands like Backstreet Boys and New Kids on the Block. Bands where they play no instruments, don't write their own songs and are more concerned with their dance moves than their singing. Hence why most of them don't even sing live and just lip sync.

Ha! I swore thought I heard something about The World Is Yours regarding BD. Maybe my brain does work after all LOL. Thanks Jenn.
The Sex Pistols were a manufactured boy band too. Malcolm McLaren put the band together to cash in on the fashion/rising youth attitude of the time and they were more about the image than learning how to play their instruments. So I guess I can't be too hard on Blink 182, at least they're actual musicians that know what they're doing. But to be honest I don't really like The Sex Pistols either. There's punk and then there's noise. I'm probably going to cop a lot of criticism for that :-P

I don't know if you guys know that but the band Funkervogt (of which Eric or Dylan bought a CD) has a track called "Columbine" that came out in 2013 and here are the lyrics :
Looking back, a few years ago How could two boys become such monsters ? Caused by hatred for society ? Or rage and mourning in themselves ?
Chorus: I'm full of hatred when I start killing It's hell on earth where you all must die There's no way back and I am willing The guns are loaded and so am I
Did they think they were living in a movie ? Or did they believe in a strange version of justice ? They created a superego To judge the life and death of the innocent
Chorus: I'm full of hatred when I start killing It's hell on earth where you all must die There's no way back and I am willing The guns are loaded and so am I
Their lines, a symbol for sick souls I can't say what led them to kill You should ask yourself How many of you are still alive ?
Chorus (2x): I'm full of hatred when I start killing It's hell on earth where you all must die There's no way back and I am willing The guns are loaded and so am I

Wow!! Nice post! alot of these I had saved on a playlist on YT but some of them I am seeing for the first time. ( Like "that Fly cd....") This is really awesome to me because I love music and seeing what they listened to is like trying to be in that moment with them. I find myself asking what they may have liked about the song or did they sit there alone in their rooms rocking out? I've also sometimes wondered what they may have listened to that we don't know about. For example lets say if Dylan had a softspot for "Stairway to Heaven" or something along that. I hope this topic continues to grow.

Dylan liked DJ Spooky’s album Riddim Warfare which has some rap tracks on it, the rest being some experimental electronic stuff heavy on sampling. It’s a great album. Dylan had a DJ Spooky shirt and a sticker on his car.

I just wanted to post on the comment made by the OP (even though it was 4 years ago and by a guest and not a registered account) "I think we can easily say that Eric was far more into music than Dylan, and despite what I thought before researching this, they actually had pretty different tastes. It's strange, because they're often lumped into one box."
That doesn't seem to be the case to me at all. They both seemed to have a diverse taste in music, and that's just from what we know. Of course they almost undoubtedly listened to a lot of music that we will never know about.
While they had some diverging tastes (Eric seemed more into the heavy/edgy techno and metal stuff, barring Enya, Vanessa Williams and Loreena McKennitt lol)
Whereas Dylan was into a lot of the ambient techno stuff like Spacetime Continuum, The Future Sound of London, and some other rock stuff like Smashing Pumpkins that Eric apparently didn't like. It's unknown whether Eric liked the Chemical Brothers like Dylan did, but they both liked prodigy. Somehow I doubt Eric liked DJ Spooky like Dylan did but you never know.
Of course they had a lot of similar tastes like KMFDM, Prodigy, NIN, Marylin Manson, etc.
