I think it vaguely has to do with Columbine Effect and a little of Bullying. The real tragedy is that if he waited another year for his 18th birthday and bought an AR-15 he would have actually got a good highscore.

I heard that he was getting bullied, which he was obviously angry about, but his sister getting bullied was his "breaking point".
