| Ok so I know this is dumb but I find myself re-reading cullenbine... Something that caught my attention and kind of pisses me off is cullen claims that Dylan was religious in one sentence and then in the very next one says that his family wasn't active in church... Now while I believe whole heartedly that Dylan believed in an after life, I've been under the impression that he wasn't religious at all.... I know it's probably been discussed before but this is seriously bothering me |

| Maybe when he was younger but as he got older, all he did was mock religion. The "I am god" or "what would jesus do?" gives his beliefs away but we are entitled to have multiple beliefs depending on our moods I guess which is another reason why religious debates will never end. | |

| He was raised luteran, but he obviously gavethat up. His mom wa sjewish, he never was.
IMHO he built a rump-set of personal spiritual beliefs. That is what his (in)famous "halycon/s" referred to. _________________ Life is like a tram - you need to know when to get off.

| Maybe he meant spiritual instead of religious? Dylan was obviously very spiritual. All of his talk about other dimensions and some kind of afterlife proves that. It seems some people have trouble telling the difference between morality and spirituality. You don't have to value life to believe there's some greater purpose that drives the universe.

| They both were thinking about afterlife and were hoping to end up in a better place ,for them this Earth was kind of a Hell ,they did not like life , but i think they were not very religious , Maybe they were a little more more spiritual then religious but ...I do not really think so,Maybe they just started to think about the death ,afterlife, as they knew what they are going to do. _________________ Everything that's realistic has some sort of ugliness in it. And Brooks, he loves Dylan too. In his book Brooks generlaly goes down to: "Eric was evil, but Dylan was normal and only became a monster as a result of Columbine HS where I myself was bullied and hanged around with punk kids". - Abigail Lee wrote:

Dylan yes. Eric I'm not so convinced. I think this is probably one of the times where Eric made himself conform to Dylan's views as a way of keeping their bond stronger (or perhaps just keeping Dylan in line, who knows?). _________________ Life is like a tram - you need to know when to get off.

| Is it okay if I bring up this old thread? In my opinion, one of the main problems is that many people confuse "religious" and "spiritual". One might be religious, even without being open to spiritual things. And, one can be very spiritual without belonging to any religion. (And, one can be both spiritual and religious. Or none of the two.) So, [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], i do relate to your post. I remember Dylan mentioning on the Basement Tapes that his parents were to celebrate "f***ing Passover." This makes me think he was not too enthusiastic about Judaism. Maybe he was equally bored with Lutheran Christianity? Eric did state that the only thing he believed in was science and natural selection. But of course, this does not mean that they had no fantasies about the afterlife. And yes, [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], it is possible that Eric made himself conform to Dylan's attitudes. (Like the music preferences and the stickers on their cars.) Now I am really in doubt if I really want to read Cullen's book or not. Have already read his website, and I was sitting there like "WTF?!" But I am extremely tired of this "poor, sad Dylan vs. violent, manipulative Eric" blah. Even if Dylan was indeed very sad, and even if Eric had indeed violent and manipulative tendencies. In reality, the whole situation must have been much more complex than this. | |
