| Anyone visit the memorial &/or CHS?
I took my son in March this year.. he's a Jr in HS & met Craig Scott when they presented Rachel's Challenge a few years ago in Ohio.
Very powerful & touching experience.

| I remember you saying a few months ago you'd visited it.
Your family had relocated somewhere close?
You got to and as many times as you please to visit. Something many on here, including myself, are enviable of.

| Incidentally though, did your son find it weird you took him there or was it through sports or something and he played Columbine?
I'd find it a bit disturbing if I didn't know much about what happened and my old man took me sight seeing to somewhere loads of kids were murdered.

| I moved to the area in Feb.. 10 minutes from the school.
My son will graduate next year from his school in Ohio, he considered spending his Sr year at Columbine, but it made more sense for him to graduate with his friends vs a new school his last year.
His current school is very much like CHS is described in the late 90's.. social clicks are very tuff to deal with. His school has made a turnaround, the most recent classes have been much more respectful towards each other. The Scott family presented Rachel's Challenge & his school really embraced it.. their are several references in main areas of the school (large banners/posters) & a few teachers annually spend time each 4/20 discussing the event with their students.
He requested to visit the Memorial the first weekend he was in Denver & spent time reading each individual memorial plaque.
I've always had a zero tolerance approach to bullying going back to my early days & proud to say my son reflects the same approach in life.
The Memorial is powerful & first class, it sits just below Rebel Hill where the crosses were located days after 4/20. The school is further down the hill a few hundred yards.
There were two other families & a couple paying respects that day as well, the couple was clearly connected to the event given their emotions.

| I'm currently in Denver on business. I have a little extra time before we leave, and I'm debating whether to visit the memorial or not. This trip, and where I'm staying is actually what rekindled my interest in Columbine. I have definitely become obsessed, but part of me is holding back on visiting. | |

| I'm from Australia and i am insanely jealous of anyone who has the opportunity to go, was thinking about even just going to Littleton for a bit, it would just be so cool to walk around towns and gather a new perspective. | |

It feels a little like tragedy tourism, and also the weather is cold and drizzly. My hotel is literally 9 minutes from Dylan's old home. I respect his dad's privacy and would never drive by, even though the curiosity is killing me. I was thinking about ordering from Blackjack's Pizza, though. It's still there! Edited to add, they apparently worked at store that's closed. Bummer.

| I did visit the memorial. Kelly Fleming's inscription was very moving. It included a poem she wrote which was quite good and eerily prescient. I'm glad I visited the memorial, because it brought the massacre to life to me. It brought it off the page, and made it real to me, finally.
I also briefly drove by Columbine itself. It was Saturday, the parking lots were empty, and I only stopped for a moment. It looked smaller in real life.

| Wish I had taken the time to visit when I was out that way within a few years of it happening. I wasn't with people who would want to do it though.
I'm interested in seeing the routes between noteworthy places. Although you can pretty much do that now with Google earth it would be nice to actually experience it.

| I took a road trip to Colorado this past week and was able to visit the school, both Dylan and Eric's houses, the Clement Park and Chapel Hill memorials, and the graves of Lauren Townsend and Danny Rohrbough. It was surreal being there and more emotional than I thought it would be. |

It really is a surreal experience visiting a place you've been reading and thinking about.

My experience as well, fair to say that's the most emotional experience i've had that wasn't "personal" in memory. @Rose The Hat how were the conditions of the memorial? It's been nearly a year since I was last @ the memorial and at first glance it looks great, but there are some developing issues with stone work and the cement walkways are really starting to show cracks and faults from shifting. It's a one of a kind memorial, few compare and those that do have deep pockets to fund both the install and upkeep. The Columbine Memorial is essentially all privately funded.

I had read that it needed some repairs, but they must have worked on it since then, because it looked fine to me. It is brickwork. In the pictures you can see some dark patches in the brick, but that was water. It was drizzly and a little snowy the night before.

| I lurk a lot, sorry. Anyways I find it odd how people have an interest in actually visiting the school itself. Well rather than odd, i'd say almost creepy. It IS still a school full of children after all. Odd folks use to drive around the school and i've been approached twice by curious tourists when I went to school. Glad nobody here has gone so far as to actually break into the school (which people have tried to do.)
If there's any interest, I might dig out my 2012 yearbook and upload some pictures if anybody would like to see what the school looks like now.

There was a guy from New Zealand who used to post here, he pretended to be a student and walked all through the school with a hidden camera (I think). He uploaded the pics and footage here. Then a few months later NZ police went to his house. Apparently JeffCo police contacted them in relation to what he had done. He was then forced to delete all the footage. Cant remember if he was charged or not. Was pretty interesting, that guy had balls.

Visit Rocky Mountain National Park afterwards. I don't understand how Dylan and Eric could be so full of hate when they lived so close to such natural beauty, but that's mental illness for you. It takes no prisoners.

| Sorry if this has already been asked, but does the school still do tours every now and again? I've seen a tour on Youtube where they showed the renovations and such, and yes I realize it is still a running school. However a short guided tour of the place would be fascinating. | |

I guess you watched the remodelling tour? I highly doubt they offer that anymore and expect it was just a one off. They probably do small tours for kids thinking of attending the school after they leave primary school when looking at which high school to join but I'd expect that's about it.

The Klebold's home/property is simply breathtaking, short of living on a beach it doesn't get much better.

I kind of understand Eric's feelings of otherness since he moved around so much, but you are correct that Dylan's environment, background, and resources were so much better than most of us. His life was "perfect", he should have been happy, right? His mom calls it 'brain illness' but that's because she still can't admit her son was mentally ill. I really mostly think he was a perfectionist that needed help, but felt that asking for help was a sign of weakness or failure. I think a good therapist could have helped him, but there are so many bad therapists out there, he was probably doomed regardless of whether he'd seeked help, or not.
