I too love Zero Day and consider it the best film on the subject ever made but I do not see the acting as mediocre. I feel that the strong, vivid performances by the two leads give the film its emotional power and draw. JMO.

I think they had some good acting moments in Zero Day, especially the "regular teen" ones like Gabriel talking with his female friends etc.
I do think they failed to convey the sort of anger, malice and pump-ass-yippee anticipation of the shooting that I find coming from E&D and there certainly was room for that in Zero Day's script.
That and I don't like how they act in the final shooting scene (the idea to make the scene as a CCTV footage was pure genius hovewer imho)

Good point. I never realized how detached the two shooters were. I don't know if it was intentional. It sort of felt like two guys doing a bank robbery, and not two guys who were ecstatic about their final act of revenge.

I watched Blackbird last night.
Fairly bad script, some ridiculous things that would never happen and a terrible ending.
That said, I did kind of enjoy it in a way.

Here's a movie called Heathers (1988). It's a teen dark comedy about a girl and a guy killing off the popular kids in school. It has a lot of similarities to Columbine even before Columbine. It's really good movie.

It is a GREAT movie. But I love '80s shit, so bear that in mind.
In fact, one day, I was walking through the living room, when suddenly I looked up at the TV and saw a boy in a trench coat holding a gun at the camera. Right away, I thought, "Shit! That's Eric!" But it turned out to be a promo for Heathers.

One one hand seems very stereotypical (dad teaches guy how to shoot, guns are bad, guy is a loner hanging out with goths and whatnot).
On the otehr hand, the trailer hints that the shooter might have been psychotic, seeing delusions. If that is true, then the film might be more realistic and interesting if it goes more into the "Michael Carneal" type of shooter instea dof the "What media think CHS shooting was" type of shooter.
Come to think of it, we never had any good film about a psychotic shooter. Elephant only comes to mind, but we all know how that went.

If you guys watch that Hello Herman movie, what do you think? I think it is kind up there with zero day. The acting felt raw and emotional especially the scene with the mother of the shooter saying her life is a nightmare that never seems to end. It made me a bit teary eyed.

I've always wished someone would do a big budget movie trying to depict the whole thing as close to the truth as possible, but maybe the interest wouldn't be there anymore....

I didnt find the acting in Zero Day to be bad at all. I think the fact that they used normal teens with their real names helped them get into character better. Andre and Cal did come off as a little tame and vague in their reasoning though. We never really know what drove them to it and why they felt the need to shoot up the school.

Yes, in fact it's been Dave Cullen's wet dream for years now. There was talk of a Lifetime movie, but I think it got dashed. Cullen seems to think he owns some kind of stake in the shooting, since he's the renowned expert on everything relating to it and we should idolize him at his feet.

Honestly the bottomline is all of these movies suck. Most of you know how I feel about I'm not ashamed. The only good Columbine-related movies that I can think of are Elephant and Bang Bang You're Dead. I would include Polytechnique (MUST WATCH!!!), The Dirties, Klass, and that Cold Case episode.
