Matt Kechter would have celebrated his thirty-third birthday on Friday (the 19th).

Matt, wherever you are, I hope you had a good day.

By the way, his name is pronounced Kek-ter, not Ketch-ter.

I have noticed that there is a lot of German/Austrian surnames in Columbine.

Kechter
Mauser
Hochhalter
Ruegsegger(?)
Schnurr

etc.

Wikipedia: "According to the 2000 Census, the largest ancestry groups in Colorado are German (22%) including of Swiss and Austrian nationalities, Mexican (18%), Irish (12%), and English (12%)"

There are lots of Americans with German and Scandinavian blood, especially in the Midwest and West.

I don't have a Scandinavian surname, but over half of my background is Finnish and Swedish. Much of the rest is Scottish.

Yeah, I know. My relatively uncommon Swedish surname is more common in America than in Sweden actually. Some of them emigrated in the beginning of the 20th century, mostly to Minnesota I think.

I've never seen that video before- thanks for sharing!

Who is the man crying near the end with the ribbon drawn on his face? Matt's father?
