Question about Patrick Ireland

How badly was his foot injured? In the clip of him climbing out of the window, his foot looks so mangled it appears to be barely holding on. When school started back though, he was using a cane, so it couldn't have been that bad. Maybe it's his bloody jeans that I am seeing. I know he was shot in the foot, but do we know if it was just a clean shot or anything?

His foot left a mark on the window. It was certainly a nasty injury, the entire foot was covered in blood.
