Jokela School Massacre

I am surprised this hasn't be given its own sub forum but I guess its because not many people are interested into him like me, So here we go I guess.

On November 7th 2007, In Tuusula Finland, A 18 year old student, Pekka Eric-Auvinen, went to his school at around 11:40 A.m Finnish time on his bicycle after he was late for his first class. However, Pekka was not planning to continue his learning at school, instead, when he entered the school, he went to a bathroom, where, wearing all black clothing, including a leather jacket and a black t shirt saying "Humanity Is Overrated", pulled out a 22 caliber Sig Mosquito handgun from a black bag he brought with him, which also contained 500 rounds of ammunition. For the next 2 minutes, Pekka spent this time in the bathroom, loading his handgun and preparing for what he called "The Revolution". Once he is ready, he is thought to have leaned from the bathroom and shot and killed a student in the head. He then went towards other bathrooms, where he shot and killed 2 more students. It was at this point the school's nurse found the first victim and had contacted emergency services. Pekka then went outside the bathrooms and shot and killed another student. He then returned to where he shot his first victim and sees the nurse. He chased the nurse, and shot her dead, and killed another student at 11:46. These 2 killings happen in the hallways. At 11:47, the principle of the school, Helena Kalmi, was noted that there is a shooting in progress, then, she got on the schools PA system and ordered all classes to barricade themselves and hide. Pekka heard this, and began shouting while looking for more targets, yelling things like "REVOLUTION!" and "I'm going to kill you all!", while also firing at stuff randomly. He fires 53 rounds at this point. It is said that during this point, he encountered a students mother who was about to enter the school, but he spared her for unknown reasons. He then tried to enter a classroom but the door was locked, so he shot through the door 3 times, which injured a student in the toe. Pekka then went to the 2nd floor, where he saw 2 students sitting on a bench in the hallway. He smiled at them, and shot and killed one of them, while the other escaped. He then tried to pour gasoline(which he brought with him) on the floors and walls of the hallway, but the gasoline failed to ignite. He then went back down to the first floor, and tried to enter the cafeteria, but the sliding glass doors were locked. Pekka then demanded to be let in the cafeteria, but was unable to get in. He then shot through the glass, which hit some chairs, and then left. At 11:54, Helena Kalmi and another teacher went outside near the pond outside the school, where Kalmi used a telephone to contact police, while the other teacher went to guide emergency vehicles in the parking lot. However, Auvinen emerged from the school, and cursed her out, calling her a "bitch!", he then chased the principle around the school towards the schoolyard. Kalmi tried to beg and convince Pekka to surrender, but Pekka made her get on her knees. A student who knew Auvinen and was in a classroom in front of the schoolyard, said he saw pekka made the principle get on her knees, where he then shot her 7 times, fatally wounding her. He then went back inside the school on the first floor and began knocking on classroom doors. He eventually made entry into an occupied classroom. There, he shouted orders, saying this is a revolution, and that school was out forever, and that he demanded they start destroying school property. Nobody did what he said, and he shot at the window. Nobody reacted to this, angering Pekka, causing him to fire another round at the TV in the classroom. One student then did what Auvinen asked, and pushed over his table, prompting Auvinen to say "Good job" and then leave without shooting anybody. A few minutes later, he saw the first responding police officers, and shot at them from the inner court through a window, but the shot failed to penetrate the glass. Then, at 12:04 PM, he took a position at the main entrance, and fired 2 more shots at the police after they tried to approach and negotiate with him. Pekka then went into a bathroom near the Cafeteria and shot himself in the head. However, he didn't die instantly, he was unconscious. At 1:54 (Finnish Time) officers found his body, and determined he was still alive. His body was moved out of the school and put into an ambulance. at 2:45 (Finnish Time), he arrived at a hospital in Helenski, the capital of Finland, still alive and unconscious. However, at 10:15 P.M (Finnish Time), Auvinen was declared dead.

I don't think Pekka really deserves a forum section to be honest.
We know almost everything about him and there isn't that much to discuss.

I would honestly not worry about it. None of us can control how Naze acts and none of us know for sure if they're going to commit a shooting.

Pekka Eric Auvinen was born on June 4th 1989 in Tuusula Finland to Ismo Auvinen(father) and Mikaela Vuorio(mother). His brother who was 11 at the time of his shooting was born 8 years later. As a little boy, he was described as not having the same interests as other boys his age and was considered "unusual" in that sense. He was described as always dressing nicely at school while the other kids didn't, a teacher even recommended that Pekka could maybe start to wear jeans to his parents, but his parents disagreed and thought Pekka should decide what he wishes to wear. He also as a little kid in elementary school was said to have very little friends but would not do stuff with them. One night he did decide to sleepover at a friends in elementary, but Ismo kept contacting the friends parents asking if Pekka was alright, as he had never been away from home. When he was 12, the 9/11 Attacks happened in the United States, Pekka was upset over it his mother said, as he admired the United States and New York. He was even still playing with Lego's at this time and would keep rebuilding the Twin Towers over and over again after what happned. It should be also mentioned that Elementary school was also when Pekka started to become bullied by other classmates. In 5th grade he complained about the bullying in a questionnaire, where then Pekkas parents did contact the bullies parents and asked them to make their children stop bullying Pekka and apologize to him, but the bullying still continued. In high schools things changed, Pekka started to become more quiet, and started to have social anxiety and panic attacks. He also started to have depression. His parents tried to get him hospitalized for these behaviors, but the hospital recommended them not to as his symptoms were considered not very serious(These attempts happened between December 2006 and January 2007). So Pekka was put on Prozac, but would take it irregularly. Eventually before November 2007, he stopped taking the medication completely. His teen years are were he got his Computer for his room, where in my opinion in 2006, he began researching school shootings and other acts of violence. He also researched philosophy and political movements, and other things relating to politics. His history teacher in 8th grade stated he was a good student, but had interests in History and extreme movements and interested in both Communism and National Socialism. Pekka also owned books on government and politics, and was reported by other students to always have books on Karl Marx and the Nazis with him at school. In politics class there would be class discussions, Pekka usually did participate in them. In one discussion however, on the topic of Communism in North Korea, he said that Communism was good and that citizens didn't deserve rights under a communist state. This happened in high school, and Pekka was still being bullied. Some students still bullied him for dressing nice and also nicknamed him "The Communist" or "The Nazi". While Pekka was interested in these kinds of government, Pekka hated all forms of government and he would probably then be considered an Anarchist. Pekka like other shooters was into video games, with him claiming his favorite video games were Battlefield, Hitman, and Doom. He also owned other games like Splinter Cell, Civilization 3 and Civilization 4, one game from the "Commandos" strategy game series. He also owned the Controversial PC game "JFK Reloaded", installed on his computer. 4 of the games he owned: Battlefield 1942, Battlefield 2, Hitman Codename 47 and Hitman 2 Silent Assassin, would be included in his YouTube videos. In March 2007, Pekka created a YouTube channel, with the username "NaturalSelector89". There he would upload videos about religion, government, his views on the world, and gaming videos, all with some background music from metal/electronic bands. Some videos however would be him in his personal life, such as taking walks and riding his bike. A couple of the videos however would include tributes to the Columbine Shooters Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold (he most likely had been influenced by Eric Harris),videos on other mass shooters like James Oliver Huberty, The Mcdonalds shooter, Robert Steinhauser, Jeff Weise, a tribute to the Unabomber Ted kaczynski, a Tribute to Timothy Mcveigh, the Oklahoma city bomber, a video on the Waco seige, and another one on the Tokyo Sarin Gas attacks, along with videos on other school shooters and killers. One video he made of Hitman Codename 47 was of him going on a killing rampage with the Godsmack song "I Fucking Hate You" playing in the background. He also made the same kind of video on Hitman 2 Silent Assassin. Pekka told very few of his few friends about his YouTube channel. One video titled "Philosophy Of Mine" tells how Pekka believe all Humans except for people who think like him, should be wiped from the earth, and how humanity is controlled by governments. The background songs were the Nine Inch Nails song "Burn" the KMFDM song "Godlike" and the Marilyn Manson song "The Fight Song". March 2007 is also when Pekka decided to plan the shooting, in his journal, he called the plan "Operation Main Strike", and would consider the shooting as an act of revolt and revolution against all mankind. In May 2007, in his politics class, a student reported the teacher showed a documentary on the Columbine High School Massacre on the topic of gun use, and Pekka took great interest in it. In English class, he would write about Columbine and other violent acts for his assignments. On August 31st, Pekka took a one hour training session at a local gun range. Then 3 weeks before November 7th, he received his gun permit. And then he tried to purchase a Beretta 9mm handgun, but the police rejected it for its firepower. He then filed to purchase a Ruger 22. MK3 hangun, but the handgun was not available. Then On November 2nd, he finally purchased his Sig Mosquito 22. handgun and 2 boxes of ammunition. He made videos on his gun, one of which had him with various poses of him pointing the gun at the camera with the KMFDM song "Son Of A Gun as the music. He even called himself "Son Of A Gun" after this. In October 2007, the NaturalSelector89 channel was deleted from youtube, forcing pekka to make a new one, this time titled "Sturmgeist89". The Channel included re uploads from his original channel, along with some new videos. During the summer of 2007, he made an online girlfriend named 'TanaScheel" who also had a YouTube channel, but she later cheated on him, which made pekka very angry, and have different views on women which prompted him to make 2 videos on his sexual fantasies. One of them had images of women in bondage with the Nine Inch Nails song "Closer" playing. He also got into a rivalry with YouTuber The Amazing Atheist, after which TAA stated that any channel with tributes to the columbine shooters should be investigated by police. TAA also called out Pekka on his views and also had one video of him reviewing Pekkas Philosophy video and pointing out flaws in the video. Eventually Pekka did try to end the situation and try to befriend him, but TAA rejected. On the night before the shooting, Pekka apologized to Tanascheel for his behavior towards her after the breakup, but Pekka also stated by the time she would read it, he would already be dead. In his final days of his life, Pekka talked about his gun with his friends and how happy he was about it. Friends noticed pekka started acting strange according to his friends, they said he would draw guns, but he told them he was joking. On the day of the shooting, Pekka uploaded his final and most well known video: "Jokela High School Massacre 11/07/2007" This was a warning video of the attack, with the KMFDM song Stray Bullet as the track. His Battlefield 2 profile also suggests that it was the last video game he ever played before going on his attack, as it stated that he played it on the day of the shooting. The profile also suggested he had played a total of 187 hours playtime on the game. Pekkas mom also stated before November 7th, he had been increasingly spending a lot of time isolated in his room at his computer. In Pekkas manifesto titled "Manifesto Of A Natural Selector", he talks about how it is time that he and other people that think like him should revolt against the "weak-minded masses" and start a war against all mankind and governments.

Since social darwinism has been a factor before in school shootings I think it is interesting to discuss it more... is there any good thread for that?

Well he talked about it being a revolution and shit so I would think according to him he had some kind of plan.. even if it maybe doesn't make much sense

Maybe it was like columbine where he simply got bored or lost adrenaline? Maybe he was tired? (he supposedly went to bed around 1 A.M) Or maybe after shooting 8 people he was disturbed or horrified by the gore and blood and it scared him out of shooting more? I dont know we may never know why he didn't shoot them

I very vividly remember when Pekka made his attack. During the summer of 2007 I was active on the old Columbine forums and was also researching other "columbine culture" online, including youtube. I was very familiar with his music videos. Many of them featured KMFDM (and IIRC some also Rammstein) music with the "Zero Hour - Massacre at Columbine" documentary scenes in the background.

There were several people making these sort of vids at the time, but his (youtube moniker "naturalselector89) vids stood out for a vibe of sheer rage and also decent combination of music and footage to a balanced rythm.

"Owned" is a bit of a misnomer, as the game was already freeware/abandonware at the time and you could download it from the net. In fact I remember very well that one of the popular video game websites at the time made an article titled something like "10 controversial/offensive games". The article included links to both JFK Reloaded and Danny Ledonne's "Super Columbine Massacre RPG" game. (For those who do not know - Danny ran the previous incarnation of these forums, in 2007 his forums were the premier place for people researching columbine to meet and talk.)

What I'm getting at is - in 2007 a lot of people who knew "JFK Reloaded" knew about "Super Columbine Massacre RPG"  and vice-versa. "Super Columbine Massacre RPG" would then introduce people to the forums and the wider (and weirder) world of columbine researchers, fanboys, fangirls, anarcho-primitivism and columbine space-monkeys.

Stray Bullet was something of an unofficial anthem of columbine space-monkeys back in the day, featured in a ton of columbine music videos. Pekka himself had previously made a vid with scenes from "Zero hour" with this song as background music.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was "passive contact" - Matti watching Pekka's videos or following him on youtube, but I doubt they actually talked or even exchanged messages. Pekka's videos were well known amongst columbine fanboys at the time, but Pekka himself was neither very approachable nor himself active on any forums, etc that I know of.

I haven't found any, although I think they were featured in this documentary but I'm not sure.

I believe that if he had waited and spent years planning, he could have committed an attack to rival Anders Brievik.

He wanted to be Eric Harris, its clear in his writings hes imitating him, hes one of the shooters that was very inspired by Columbine for sure just like Dmitrios.

That's because it's a quote from the show House MD, a tv show he liked. He could have gotten it at some merchandise store or maybe it was custom made. IDK, maybe he wanted English viewers to understand what it said?

Almost 10 years since the other big shooting in Finland, Kauhajoki. That was inspired by Pekka.

I remember watching the news on BBC and i remember them showing him firing the gun at the camera.
