BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. (WPEC) — A teen stole an AR-15 from a car belonging to a Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office deputy, according to police.

Boynton Beach police say a 17-year-old stole a gun and other police equipment from an unmarked PBSO car while it was parked outside Meadows Square Aug. 14th.

The PBSO deputy did not notice that a Bushmaster patrol rifle, three black polymer rifle magazines, and other police equipment were no longer in the car until he got home, according to the police report.

He reported the incident to Boynton Beach police who launched an investigation into the matter, police say.

After obtaining surveillance video and identifying two potential suspects, police were able to track down the car used and the house it resides at. The deputy positively identified the gun as his after police obtained video of the teen dancing with it in his hands on Instagram.

A search warrant was issued and police discovered the gun underneath the bed.

The teen was arrested and charged with burglary while armed with a firearm.

You wouldn't believe how many criminals turn around and post evidence of their crimes to the internet.
