Writing a Script for a Columbine Film

I am currently in the works of writing a feature length script about the shooting. Starting a year before the shooting and ending in the immediate aftermath. I wanted to write this after i had watched Im not ashamed and got fed up with people spreading false information about the event. I have been working on this since avout march this year and this is the first time i have shared a part of it outside of my friends. Could you tell me what you think of the sample i have included (Erics Death) and your thoughts on if you would have interest in me eventually trying to get this made.

Looks promising.  I think if you stick as closely to the facts as possible, then most within the Columbine community would be interested.

I am all for it. I am writing a play about a fictional school shooting but semi based on Columbine. It's from the perspective of the shooters for family and friends

Ive listening to several podcasts, done extensive research of the 11k and transcripts of the basement tapes. I've also researched alot through this forum which has probably been the most helpful.

I don't mean this to be disrespectful or anything like that, but I find it infuriating that the victims families don't want a film made based on Eric and Dylan, because it could be a real good movie. The movie would be not to honor Eric and Dylan, but to tell the story of their lives and how they were brought up.

Thats exactly how i feel, as a matter a fact the opening scene is taken from a story Eric wrote about his memories in Michigan, Particularly the "Playing War" part. I planned on showing them in an honest light but never in a glorifying manner. I mean in the end of the day they were just kids. I also did plan on incorporating some of the victims into the story although not necessarily having scenes focusing on them. Such things as hearing news on the announcements about a vollyball game Lauren townsend had played in, or a scene where dylan saves the play that Rachel starred in.

I really like what you have written so far. If you are looking for actors for the film, I could probably play a part in it. Also, if you can get a GoFundMe (or any other site like that) set up, maybe that'll help us fund the project.

Here Is Just a Little Update my goal for this is to not only show the boys descent into madness but also never have the audience never sympathize with there actions, here is a piece of the library scene, specifically from when Eric & Dylan Enter the library until Kyle's Death. Tell Me what you think

Scene: Library Massacre (Int/Day Columbine High School/ Library)

CUT BACK TO PATTI NIELSON UNDERNEATH THE TABLE STILL ON THE PHONE WITH POLICE

Nielson mid rambling: I said well that’s not a toy gun, a real gun. I was...I was going out there to say No!

A loud shotgun blast rings out a few feet away. Causing Patti to rattle with fright

Nielson: OH MY GOD, THAT WAS REALLY CLOSE, That just Rattled me.

CUT TO ERIC WALKING IN TO THE LIBRARY ENTRANCE DOORS WITH DYLAN FOLLOWING RIGHT BEHIND HIM.

Eric yells at the top of his lungs
Eric: GET UP!!

Eric fires the shotgun twice hitting a desk and sending splinters in the face of student hiding underneath revealed to be Evan Todd
Cut to a shot of student hiding underneath a table as the camera pans up as Eric and Dylan walk into the room looking around at the occupants.

CUT TO ERIC LOOKING AROUND NODDING, HE IS SMILING.
Eric: Okay, everyone with white
Hats stand up!

WE CUT TO PATTI NIELSON AS SHE WHISPERS TO THE PHONE.

Patti: Oh god there in here.

CUT TO DYLAN, HE SEEMS ANTSY AND EAGER TO START SHOOTING.

As no one seems to want to stand up Dylan yells

Dylan: Everybody Get Up, NOW!!!

Eric seems to have lost his patience

Eric: Fine we’ll start shooting
anyway.

Eric Fires his shotgun again

Dylan's mannerisms change completely from what we’ve seen the entire film. He is enjoying terrorizing and afflicting pain on his captives.

Dylan: YOU’RE ALL MINE!!

Dylan charges into the library and raises his shotgun at a Kyle Velasquez, who is still sitting at a computer

Kyle puts his hands up to shield himself

Dylan Pushes Kyle around using the shotgun, Cruelly taunting him before yelling at him

Dylan: Ready To die?!?

Dylan sadistically smiles and fires the shotgun, hitting the Kyle in the neck,

Dylan: DIE MOTHERFUCKER!!!

Kyle falls off the chair and to to the floor dead, as both boys walk past him to the nearest table.

I like the idea. Not to glorify anything but you are right. Eric and Dylan despite what they did were kids too. Kids with families that loved them and that had lives before all this. It would be interesting to see a movie based on their lives prior to NBK that remains neutral about their actions.
