On the evening of Friday, July 16, 1999, John F. Kennedy Jr. (the son of the assassinated president), his wife, and her sister boarded a small private plane for a short flight from Caldwell, New Jersey, to Hyannis, Massachusetts. Kennedy and his wife were going to his cousin's wedding; they were going to drop off her sister at Martha's Vineyard before heading on to the Kennedy compound at Hyannis Port. But they never made it. About an hour into the flight, Kennedy - an inexperienced pilot - became disoriented and flew the plane into the ocean, killing everyone aboard. After an extensive search, the wreckage (with the bodies still strapped into their seats) was found at the bottom of the sea on July 20 - the two-month anniversary of the Columbine massacre.
The NTSB concluded that the cause of the accident was pilot error:

- The pilot's failure to maintain control of the airplane during a descent over water at night, which was a result of spatial disorientation. Factors in the accident were haze, and the dark night.
A full narrative of the accident:

In the summer of 1999, there were rumors that Kennedy was going to run for the U.S. Senate seat in New York in the 2000 election. A few years earlier, he had started a political magazine called
George. After a long run as "America's most eligible bachelor," he'd settled down and gotten married. At the age of 38, he finally seemed to have hit his stride.
At the time, then-first lady Hillary Clinton was running for that very same Senate seat - and, indeed, she ended up winning it, becoming the first first lady to win elected office in her own right.
If Kennedy had decided to run for the Senate, he would have posed a formidable challenge to Clinton. He might not have won, but he would have put a serious dent in her chances of victory.
So, the conspiracy theory goes, Clinton took care of Kennedy by (literally) making him sleep with the fishes.
Does anyone here give credence to this theory? If so, why? If not, why not?
