My guess is because many of these murderers were young teenagers who liked being "edgy" and "shocking" and drew in a childish, simple style to bring out a darker side of their younger selves. Sounds strange, but that's what I think.

Spencer Hight: This first one he uploaded on DeviantArt in 2003, with the following description "This was made completely with a micro-tip marker. There are at least several hundred thousand dots I figure...it took me around 26 hours to complete.": [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] And this one in 2006 with the following description "Finally got around to finishing this. It's sort of a self portrait (I miss my hair)...I'm going to color it next. This is the first piece of line art that I have done using Painter IX, and I must say now that I am getting the hang of the program I am absolutely loving it. Expect more to follow.": [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] The last activity on there was in 2007, when Spencer made his last journal, although his last liked piece was from 2008, although liking something isnt really notable.

I'm not sure if this is appropriate, but it is connected to a school shooting. Feel free to remove it if it's not:
Art by Jeremy Delle, who killed himself in front of his classmates (not attempting to shoot anyone else). The picture of the elephant was done when he was 7, and his art won 1st prize at the Texas state fair among other awards. The music video for "Jeremy", a song by Pearl Jam loosely based on the incident, helped inspire Barry Loukaitis to commit the Moses Lake school shooting.
