In the video his parents took of him before prom, he said, “I’ll never have kids. Kids just mess up your life.”

Was this just a random comment or was he foreshadowing/hinting to his parents what would happen to their lives in just a few days?

His parents showed it to Andrew Solomon, the author of Far from the Tree.

I'm not sure that it was foreshadowing but I don't have a good explanation for why he said it. It's kind of like him showing Sue the mostly filled flask when he got back from the prom and saying, "I just wanted you to know you can trust me." As Sue explains in her book, this felt almost cruel because in that moment, unbeknownst to her, Dylan knew what he was going to do just 3 days from then.

From Sue's book I find his mentioning a "senior prank" to be a bit foreshadowing too....

I know this is besides the point but I always thought he and Robyn could have drank the schnapps and then refilled it before he got home....

Though the idea of drinking a lot of peppermint schnapps sounds revolting to me.

LOL Same; can't stand the stuff. Always makes me think of that Seinfeld episode where Jerry and George use schnapps to get Elaine to tell her secrets.

With all due respect, I think you’re reading too much into it.

As for the other line in the attachment about one day looking back at the video and laughing, IMO it was him trying to appear/ act typical so as not to attract any suspicion.

I feel the "you can trust me" bit was again, him trying to play into the "normality". Purposely throw it out there to make it seem to his mother she could trust him. I feel it was planned like everything else.

As far as the kids comment, perhaps he was foreshadowing. Perhaps he was saying what a lot of us feel when we are young...we do not want kids. Period. I didn't want them for years, now I have 3 and can't imagine life without them. They def have their moments, but I love them. As shown though, Dylan def knew what was up in 3 days. They even "apologized" in a video or so. Maybe they both knew that there would be some repercussions towards the family for their actions. I highly doubt in their minds they knew to what extent (or even cared as much) the stuff their parents would face. To me this is yet another question without an answer. Debatable, but not answerable.

Dylan knew he would be dead three days later. So it is a logical statement that he will never have kids.

I agree. I do feel like the "you can trust me line" was perhaps a bit sinister. I can't decide whether I feel like Dylan said that to foreshadow the shooting, or if he said it in an attempt to portray himself as being completely normal before the shooting. Either way, he was thinking about what was going to happen in a few days when he said it.

"You can trust me" line was the one that made me think of Dylan as the scarier one. It sounds so sinister and sarcastic that it sends chills down my spine!
