Line in Eric's Journal - WTH?

It's rather trivial, but there's a line in Eric's journal that I have no idea how to decipher, so I'm curious to see how others interpret it.

"I want to tear a throat out with my own teeth like a pop can."

What the HELL does that even mean? Is this just a sick, senseless simile or something else?

The NIN reference is a different line - from the song "Closer." While I'm not too knowledgable about NIN, I don't think there's a line about pop cans in their songs.

There isn't. It's most likely some weird nod to how brutally he would kill someone if he could. He does reference Closer in the journal, when he is talking about his sexual fantasies.

No kidding.

In one of Eric's writing assignments, he had to list things that made him different or unique. Among numerous other things, Eric mentioned being able to rip open a pop can with his bare teeth.

I wonder if he could actually do that...
