I can get a real feel of what it is like from your photospheres. _________________ "I will have a love, someone who is me in a way. | My pleasure, I believe the pic from above should be the exact area the crosses were placed just after 4/20.

| Never realized how far away from the school the memorial is. Unless its the way the photo was taken, it looks like its over a half a mile away. | |

I've been wanting to make one for a while & tday provided the perfect oppty. The photosphere has that "objects are closer than they appear" effect. The mountains & HS especially. It's truly an exceptional memorial as reflected by the $2M cost.. "Never Forgotten" is featured on the ribbon that the Velasquez family created & centered in the center of the memorial. The memorial certainly contributes to the preservation of the memory of 4/20 & the lives lost.

Its the image effect, the memorial is 300-400 yards from the HS. They excavated the area below Rebel Hill.. a "bowl effect". It's right behind the ball fields that are right next to the high school, but not visible unless you walk up

Gotcha! I figured that they wouldn't of built it so far away.

| The mountains in the background are stunning. Its sad to think such a beautiful place is a constant reminder of pain and suffering. _________________ *insert Columbine related quote here*

| Have we got to the bottom of why it took them about 8 years to erect the memorial? | |

Bottom line answer is money. I'll see if I can find an interesting article to support details, been a while, but I read a few. Price tag was $2M & the annual upkeep is $15,000-$20,000 annually. That includes pretty much free labor with all of the volunteers. It's a beautiful memorial, the best I've seen for a tragedy of that level. It appears they went a little over the top, hence funding stalled for a while. I hope the integrity & quality of condition are maintained.. I'd hate to see things go shabby 15-20 years down the line when a lot of that generation has moved etc.. I expect that the "flame" will always burn for the memory of 4/20, but that cost of annual upkeep is tough & the memorial is big.. some years that cost will spike. Lemme dig on articles, there may be a few "political" issues or promised funds that never delivered, but the lasting impression I have is that it was a lofty budgetary goal & things hit a wall regarding support for a while.

| I wouldn't mind seeing some other 360 pics like this from the Columbine area, maybe even closer to the school proper. _________________ "I will have a love, someone who is me in a way. Someday ... possibly thru this life, maybe another, but it will happen..." --DK, The Book of Existences

| Yeah I'd read about the 15k upkeep but I am astonished that it cost so much originally. Here's a link to the site - [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] | |
