Just to start off i do not know if this is the appropriate place to put this but i think it can foster discussion about various shooters and is more in line with "other mass shootings" then "mental health"
To start off ill bring up a term in Japanese, the term is "Kireru" translates roughly to "to snap". The term was used to describe events in the late 90s and early 2000s where teenagers, usually middle class with no real criminal records, went a either killed people or attempted to kill people. These events are "the Kobe child murders", the "Neomugicha incident", and few smaller incidents such as a the 2000 Tokyo subway baseball bat attack. These attacks although a real motive was never established they all follow a trend that is beginning to spread to other western nations. Asia has some of the highest suicide among teens. Im thinking that this is because of the extreme amounts of testing and school they do. The culture focuses on education, which is not a bad thing. But when the child's life is school for like 15 hours a day and if they put in all the work and fail the big tests. They are fucked and essentially ruined any chance of getting into a good school. These attacks by teens are unusual in my opinion. When you look at mass violence before the 90s it was mostly adults or teens with bad home lives and other problems (mental illness, alcoholism, depression). Compared to the attacks now, the 20th century "random acts of violence" are nothing compared to what is happening now. The postal shootings in the 20th century are similar to the Kireru events in the fact that they all were angry and wanted to lash out. But the differences is that "going postal' killers were angry at the job and stressed. This is what is happening in the western world with teens, Columbine was seemingly average teens(compared to brenda or kip). Then as the the new century came and years went by,the stress on students has gone up so much. Constant testing, SAT/ACT. Kids have to have a 4.0 in all AP classes to basically compete at the high level unis these days. The kids are also coupled with the fact that they know debt is going to come, jobs are limited, and stress from teen life in general could also lead to depression. Sure depression has existed in other times, but now it looks like every single person is on some sort of medicine, or says they are depressed. The violence is just an accumulation of anger and frustration over the hopelessness of there futures.
What im trying to say is, the lives kids live these days is NOT mentally healthy and will just lead to more depression and anger.
The only question I have is. Why do people who do these massacres not kill themselves instead of murdering random people? Could it be a copycat type thing?
