Carly Novell, 17, has a grandfather who survived the Camden, New Jersey neighbourhood mass shooting where Howard Unruh killed 13 people in 1949. It was one of the oldest mass shootings in America.

I don't mean to be rude, but Unruh's "Walk of Death" was not the first mass shooting in US history. Americas first mass shooting occurred in Winfield, Kansas on August 13, 1903 when Gilbert Twigg opened fire with a double-barreled shotgun on a group of people gathering at a concert. He killed 9 people and injured 25+ before killing himself.

Looks like that was so widely forgotten to the point where it doesn't have its own wikipedia article and people suspected Howard Unruh to be the first mass shooter.

We have so many shootings now they're affecting the same people.

Unruh's case does have a Wikipedia page but I wrote up my own summary of events a little while ago.

For some reason, none of the pictures that I originally posted in the thread seem to show up for me but there are some informative links at the end, with the first one being an article written at the time of the shooting.

This site has some really amazing pictures from the day of the shooting and coverage from later on. It even has a snapshot from Unruh's photo album and pictures of the target he used to shoot in his basement.

Wow, reminds of how a student from Columbine survived Virginia Tech.
