The gunman who killed two women in a Florida hot yoga studio Friday had been arrested at least two times for touching women in public, according to court records.

Scott Paul Beierle, 40, killed two women in a Tallahassee studio and wounded five other people before turning the gun on himself, police said. Leon County court records show he had faced two misdemeanor battery charges for grabbing women.

Beierle was arrested in 2012 for allegedly grabbing the buttocks of two women on the Florida State University campus, court records show. One woman said in a police report that Beierle grabbed her while she was at a soda fountain and she "thought it may have been her boyfriend at first." The second woman said Beierle had also grabbed her on "three separate occasions over the last month." Beierle denied intentionally grabbing anyone and said he might have accidentally bumped into someone.

Beierle was arrested again in 2016 after allegedly grabbing and slapping the buttocks of a woman at an apartment complex's pool.

Prosecutors dropped the charges after both of his arrests.

Beierle was also arrested for trespassing in an FSU dining hall in 2014, leading to a campus-wide trespass warning against him, and he faced at least six traffic violations between 2011 and 2014, records show.

Police have not determined a motive for Beierle's rampage, which claimed the lives of Maura Binkley, 21, and Dr. Nancy Van Vessem, 61. Binkley was a student at Florida State University and Van Vessem was a faculty member who coordinated internal medicine clerkship rotations at the Tallahassee campus.

Police said Saturday that Beierle had entered the yoga studio posing as a customer and abruptly started shooting people with a handgun. Patrons fought him and prevented him from harming others before he shot and killed himself, police said.

The Tallahassee Police Department did not immediately return messages from CBS News.

Beierle's LinkedIn page says he attended FSU for a masters degree in public administration and urban planning, and graduated from Binghamton University in New York in 2002. He had listed himself as a "job seeker" since 2013. The page also described him as a "military professional" and said he worked for the U.S. Army between 2008 and 2010 as a supply and logistics director.

Beierle's Facebook page has pictures of him in an Army uniform, with other uniformed men standing around him. In his "About" section, Beierle wrote: "As hard as you try, you can not escape your destiny. You can run from it, but you can not hide from it." The page also includes a quote from Patrick Bateman, the fictional serial killer from "American Psycho": "I just want to have a meaningful relationship with someone special."



Hmmm, very interesting. Seemed to have a clean Military record as far as I can tell. The quotes in the about section of Facebook are quite fascinating. Apart from his harassment of women he seemed to have minor offences and didn't show any worrying signs. Also no confirmation on what type of Handgun he used.

Scott Beierle posed as a customer inside the Hot Yoga Tallahassee studio before opening fire with a handgun without any warning, according to the Tallahassee Police Department.

Officer Damon Miller, a spokesman for TPD, said investigators came to that determination after interviewing dozens of witnesses and reviewing evidence at the scene in Midtown.

Miller said investigators are still trying to determine his connection to the victims or the business. They're hoping evidence at his home will point to a motive.

"Investigators have been working around the clock to uncover more information and gain clarity as to why this senseless act occurred," Miller said.

Jeff Binkley, the father of slain 21-year-old Maura Binkley, said police told him the incident was a random act.

It’s not clear why Beierle was in Tallahassee. He attended Florida State University several years ago but most recently resided in Deltona. He had a room at a local hotel, though police didn’t say which one. Officers searched the hotel room and began a search of his residence in Volusia County this morning, Miller said.

Miller said multiple search warrants have been obtained for the Beierle’s electronic devices and social media profiles. Violent crimes investigators and forensic specialists are attending autopsies of the dead.

This is true, especially on the mean streets of Denver.

In all honesty I have been harassed more in Denver than when I lived in LA or NYC!!!! Not excessively everyday but I have felt the need for self defense the most since I moved here.

The Friday evening shooting at a busy upscale shopping plaza jolted the state capital and police said they were still searching for a motive that led to the deaths of a Florida State University student and a well-known local doctor who was a member of the school faculty.

But details about 40-year-old Scott Paul Beierle began to emerge in the hours after, including that he had once been banned from FSU’s campus and had been arrested twice for grabbing women even though the charges were ultimately dropped.

Beierle, who had moved to the central Florida town of Deltona after getting a graduate degree from FSU, also appear to post a series of videos on YouTube in 2014 where he called women "whores" if they dated black men, said many black women were "disgusting" and described himself as a misogynist.

He said promiscuous women deserved to be crucified and he suggested putting up land mines to keep people from crossing into the US from Mexico. The existence of the videos was first reported by BuzzFeed.

In one video, he likened his adolescent self to Elliot Rodger, a 22-year-old who killed six students and wounded more than a dozen others near the University of California, Santa Barbara, before killing himself in 2014. Rodger was a self-identified "incel," short for "involuntary celibate."


Tallahassee police say Beierle shot six people and pistol-whipped another after walking into the yoga studio that sits on the second floor of a shopping centre located near the city’s fashionable midtown neighborhoods. Tallahassee Police Chief Michael DeLeo said some in the studio showed courage by trying to stop him.

Witnesses at the shopping centre described how people who had been in the studio ran away, seeking shelter in nearby bars and restaurants as shots rang out.

Police responded within a few minutes, but by then Beirele had fatally shot himself, leaving police to search for a motive and a community to wonder what prompted the violence.

"It’s a place that brings me joy and peace, and I think it’s ruined," said Katie Bohnett, an instructor at the yoga studio who skipped her normal Friday practice to meet a friend for dinner. "This monster ruined it."

Police said Beierle acted alone but they were still looking into what prompted the shooting. He was originally from New York, had served in the military and once was a teacher in Maryland. After his military service, he wound up attending FSU.

Kristi Malone, who had a graduate class with Beierle, said in a Facebook message that she did not interact with him outside of the classroom because of "his odd leering, inappropriate comments and general demeanor."

"I know that myself and several of my female colleagues made a point to never be alone with him even at school because of his odd behavior," Malone said.

Mike Orgo, who was friends with Beierle on Facebook, said he met him back in 2011 at comedy night open microphone sessions held at a Tallahassee restaurant. He said that he did not know him well but said he "definitely seemed angry and on edge."

Witnesses told police that Beierle posed as a customer to gain entrance to the studio, then started shooting without warning. Police have not yet said what kind of gun he used. Bohnett said she did not recognize Beierle.

Van Vessem was an internist who also served as chief medical director for Capital Health Plan, the area’s leading health maintenance organization.

Court records show that Beierle was charged by police with battery in 2016 after he slapped and grabbed a woman’s buttocks at an apartment complex pool. Records show that the charges were eventually dismissed after Beierle followed the conditions of a deferred prosecution agreement.

Beierle was also charged with battery in 2012 for grabbing women’s buttocks in a university campus dining hall. A FSU police report shows that Beierle told police he may have accidentally bumped into someone, but denied grabbing anyone.

In 2014, Beierle was charged with trespassing at FSU. He had been seen following an FSU volleyball coach near the campus gym and was told that he was banned from campus. A month later police found him at a campus restaurant.

It was shortly after his trespassing charges that he posted the series of videos. A Tallahassee police spokesman would not confirm or deny the videos were Beierle’s. Biographical details mentioned in the videos, however, match known facts about Beierle, including details about his military service. YouTube took the videos down Saturday.

Well someone did try to tackle him but got pistol whipped, he then committed suicide afterwards so I imagine that did cut his shooting short.

Randy truly had some very weird thoughts and his videos were somewhat strange, I'll give you that. But I also think he had some mental issues mixed in there somewhere as well.

Prostitution should really be legal nationwide. It would solve a lot of the incel problems.

I've seen a lot of young guys pictures on reddit who say they are "incels", but these are not bad looking men. How can they not be in a relationship or is it more to it than looks on why they maybe an incel?

I still don't understand how people can be in a relationship. You have to be in love with someone who is also in love with you, it seems impossible for me. Definitely more than looks. Even if someone is objectively attractive it doesn’t mean that personality wise they can connect with others.

Case in point objectively many people say that Eric was handsome. Eric also did not take Rejection well and would harass women and fake suicides after they dumped him. No girl wants to deal with that especially not a 14 or 15-year-olds. No parent would want their daughter around a guy like Eric after he acts like that. Heck Tom and Sue didn’t really want Dylan to hang out with Eric after he yelled at him at the soccer game


Then take beauties in it in the eyes of the holder. Dylan is not objectively attractive at first but some of those photographs and videos of him you could see that he had some really nice features. He was also very shy, also had a very absurd sense of humor that didn’t really fit in with the culture that he was in.Dylan was also objectively mentally Ill...None of us knew Dylan but from his writings you could see he was deteriorating and we don’t know how he was in his day to day life.

Most incels are incels mainly because of either anxiety disorders, shyness, or wanting more than just sex (i.e. a proper loving relationship with someone who cares about them as they do for their partner. This is why a lot of incels refuse to have sex with prostitutes [and also because prostitutes are human waste])

Prostitutes are not human waste, many of them are poor exploited women who hate what they are doing and would like to leave this environment. Maybe most incels have some values and respect for the others and don't want to see prostitutes and contribute to this exploitation. But I think their main reason for not going to prostitutes is that as you said they don't want to have sex with a body only, they want love and sentiments and prostitution is all fake sentiments.

Agreed. Eric was a decent looking guy, he did date. He wasn't the ladies man that Cullen tried to make him out to be. BUT he did get a few dates.  Yet as I have talked about before, there was just something very off about Eric that would make almost all these girls back away from him. We have been told many times that Eric was very polite, had a good sense of humor, would always tell the girls that he was friends with that they were pretty and would hug them etc. Eric tried to be a gentleman, he did try. But the people he dated still picked up on something that made them back off. I'm not saying that Eric was EVIL, but he clearly had something wrong on a high enough level for some to notice it and get freaked out over it.  

On the surface you would look at Eric and see a normal, nice looking, smart guy. But clearly there was something very wrong on the inside.

If Eric and Dylan had just learned to embrace their latent homosexual feelings towards one another they could have solved a whole hell of a lot of problems.
