Yea he was a complete shell.

it's so telling. Eric still looks pretty much the same but Dylan just looks incredibly different and just done....

These are over edited to the point where small details actually become hidden. Eric had some small moles/freckles which can't be seen here and a lot of the color is off as well.

Yes. I also agree that they are fake data, however, it seems incredible to me that with that fake high quality, their facial characteristics are so clear, even in some photos you can see their freckles and imperfections.

I think I have the same app you used. Sometimes they can come out really good, but other times they can look fake. Here are a few I made.

It's like he is posthumously mocking us because he knows what's going to happen during his senior year.

I guess it's a mix of many technologies at once, a few simple ones.

You take an image and copy it three or four times

1) The original image.
2) Then you add a very strong "edge" filter to it (which makes it look pixelated and crumbly, but basically the very opposite of the VHS softness).
3) Now we do the opposite: A gaussian blur to soften it into some sort of "underwater plush dream".
4) If you have more of those filters, go ahead.

Now you can layer those images on top of each other by changing opacity. E.g. if you add the original image with the strong edge filtered one, each with 50% opacity, you will have strong edges, e.g. on glasses and hair streaks. If you partially, e.g. with a selector, add 30% of the softened layer over e.g. their cheeks and faces, you have a combination of both: Grain reduced, sharper edges and scan issues (from photographs) removed. If you then add visual tricks, e.g. a selective focus on it like on many of these images, you can trick the brain further as it takes the artificial blur as a base value and thinks the normal image quality as superior (which is, but only after fake-degrading it).

On the end, you can fix some lighting and colours, but that again gives it the "Plastic", "overdone" look.

On the other hand, there might be a lot of AI involved, too, taking eyes and faces out of a library of hundreds of thousands of faces to "place" them onto E&Ds faces. This way, the eye colours seem off.
