james  (the one who killed himself) was one of the columbine-people on tumblr who posted pics from himself with a gun. I didn´t know him, so I can´t tell you much. Only that we can be glad that no other people died this day.

I wonder why they don´t close his blog.

I actually spoke with him a few times before. My blog isn't Columbine based, but occasionally when I'm bored I'll scroll through the tag just for kicks (there's almost always some melodrama taking place).

I saw the pictures he was posting and messaged him out of curiosity. When I asked, he had mentioned that the gun was his dads and that he posted the pics to get a rise out of people. It was like he was trying too hard to be edgy/cool. He seemed harmless.

He saw a lot of himself in Dylan, but I can't help but wonder how much of that was molded to fit the image. Deep down, I think he was a good kid, just very misguided.

Like so many before him, it's a shame he didn't get the help he needed. Another life wasted.

I believe I may have spoken with James a few times as well. My tumblr, which I have since deleted, had a lot of Columbine stuff. Very sorry to hear this. I didn't see any pictures of the female suspect.

It's very sad. I was shocked to hear the news, because we had just spoken a few days prior. It was quite surreal.

Lindsay Kantha Souvannarath and Randall Steven Shepherd (the other 2 involved) had blogs as well. I've never spoken to either of them nor had I heard of their blogs until after the fact. However, there is an interesting article I found on Lindsay that has some information on her background:

The article does have a few misleading facts though. The first picture of a girl shown (the one with the Anonymous caption) is actually a friend of James', another blogger who lives in his area. The actual picture of Lindsay is further down. It also states that he was her boyfriend, but that proves to be false as well.

Eugh, they called her a "genius" in that page. More like another nazi-worshipping-edgetrash. flower

They gave themselves away too much, that's why someone called the cops eventually.
Also, this James dude was a major coward, killing himself before being arrested.
As no harm was done, these kids would be free of charges in just a few months (with a good lawyer, that is).

My 2 cents on this is that the whole plot was just about a few young pals having wet dreams on the wrong subject.

Where does it call her a "genius"? If it was in the article, I think they were being sarcastic?

But, yes, she did have some very twisted views. I didn't think being an Asian Nazi was ever a thing that could be.

The thing about James though is that he desperately wanted to kill himself. He was depressed and often cut himself (he spoke openly about this on his blog), had stopped eating and sleeping. I don't think it was a fear of jail that made him decide to shoot himself. I figure he was thinking more along the lines of "now is a good a time as any". But that's just me.

I don't think someone who kills themselves is a coward in any circumstances.

It's the caricature of what the archetypal columbine. Also photos of gamble just show how though these people claim to be 'self-aware' in a sea of sheep are themselves sheep.

It appears likely that James was the anonymous person who tipped off the police.

That's an interesting turn of events. Who'd of thought he'd turn himself in? I wonder what his motive was for doing that? Perhaps to get up the courage to commit suicide? If he knew he was going to get in trouble for planning it, maybe it made it easier for him to kill himself?

That's what I'm thinking.

The few times I spoke with him, he seemed to laugh about the attention he would get with his posts. He was a smart kid and that's why most of this was such a shock to me. I don't think he took anything as seriously as he let it appear (regarding his Nazi posts and kill everyone mentality).

To me, it seems he was just a very depressed kid who got in way over his head. Trying too hard to portray this image of himself that got him so much attention. I'm not saying, he's a complete saint, I'm sure in the beginning the idea of going out in a blaze of glory, killing innocent people might have appealed to him at first, but the closer the day came, the more real it became. He must have sensed the other 2 were not gonna back down.

I don't know, I'm not a psychologist. But I do know that the image you get from the things he posted on his blog and the person I talked to were two entirely different people.

I wonder what led his friends and family to believe he was the anonymous tipster. I actually think it makes perfect sense. He helped to create this fantasy and probably never thought it would actually happen. If it were me (hypothetically), I'm sure that I would never truly realize we were going through with such a thing until something happened - Souvannarath getting on a flight to Nova Scotia - to drive reality home.

In that last article, the picture of Shepperd makes him look like a meth head. Wonder if drugs (prescription or otherwise) played a role in this?

I thought the same. Wouldn't be surprised if it did. However, there are people saying that they don't believe Shepperd was in on the plan, but that he was just there to pick her up from the airport. Who knows if there's any truth to that. 3 guns were recovered at James' house that night, all I'm saying.

It's also worth noting that Souvannarath & Shepperd did not acknowledge each other when they were brought to court. Guess their friendship doesn't run as deep as one would think.

I'd be seriously pissed off if I was one of the other two people involved.

I'm glad that nobody else was hurt but this guy seemed to be a real selfish asshole. Firstly for planning to do it, then for backing out and dropping his pals in it but knowing he could just kill himself & not face the consequences for his scheme when the other two would.

I don't think it was ultimately his plan to rat out his friends. In the beginning he probably fully intended to go through with it (<----- this is what makes him an asshole, for the record), but may have had second thoughts later on.

Granted, he could've sat the other 2 down and had a meaningful discussion with them about how he had a change of heart, and why killing innocent people is wrong and they shouldn't do it, but it appears none of them were in the right frame of mind to do so. And even if he did, there's always a chance that the other 2 could have gone ahead without him. He may have felt leaving the tip was the quickest way to stop it.

Regardless, I'm sure his family is comforted by the thought. I definitely wouldn't call him a 'hero', but at least his family has something to find solace in.

Souvannarath is probably highly pissed off that their plan was thwarted, but Shepperd may feel a little differently. From what I've read, he's been best friends with James since fourth grade. I bet Shepperd is feeling a mix of sadness and betrayal. Sadness for the loss of a close friend, but also being betrayed by that same friend whom he trusted.
