On Monday, December 13, 1999, the issue of Time with the basement tapes on the cover hit newsstands.
(Yes, the issue was dated Monday the 20th ... the cover date was always a week ahead of the publication date.)
On that date, I taped this from TV:
At the time, I got Time in the mail ... it always came on Tuesday.
I don't know if you know where you were on the evening of Tuesday, December 14, 1999, but I do ... I was devouring every letter of that article.

I remember it. I was only 10 at the time, but I remember hearing my parents talk about it, and seeing it on the news.

You're welcome.
I taped a lot of newscasts ... some of them got taped over, but I still have a lot of tapes in storage.

Do you still have the Time magazine? We used to get Time delivered in the mail too back then. I wish I would have saved it. Unfortunately, I didn't become interested in Columbine until years later.

You can pick up that issue of Time on eBay for about £30 (think that's about $40 maybe?).

In case you missed it at the top of the thread, here's a CBS News report about the Time article:

Watch how it works: Pekka's videos were demonized as Nazis and even retreat requests were made, but columbine's went to TIME. Columbine is Overrated, a media product.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] (or anyone else), do you think it would be accurate to say that the reporter here (Rick Sallinger) was part of the group of media/press people who viewed the tapes? As in, he wasn't just reporting from outside on what they were telling him about the tapes? I'm working on a list of people who have seen the tapes and am wondering if I can safely add Rick Sallinger to my list.

if he was disclosing it is because he saw them.

I think so too. I just wanted to see if other people interpreted it the same way I did.

If one thing is evident, it is not necessary for others to accept it.

Thanks! He's going on the list.
