Seems like it was just suicide by cop. He only fired shots into the ceiling, and the bombs he had were fake. Also, Someone on Reddit mentioned that by choosing an R-rated movie on the first day of school, there would be a very small chance of any children being hurt.

Just saw where he only had a pellet gun. And a fake bomb.
