What was it like for them, living with this big, dark secret for so many months?

Did they wake up every day wondering if today was the day that someone was going to find out what they were planning, and put an end to their apocalyptic dream? Was it their first thought after they woke up and their last thought before they fell asleep?

I wonder.

Eric did say that he relates 'everything' he sees and hears to NBK. So it's safe to assume that it was always on his mind. Not sure about Dylan though. He seemed more obsessed with girls than NBK.

Yes, I'd say so. I'd assume something of that magnitude, also being the day you're going to die, would have to be on the mind for awhile.
If you look closely, Eric especially was pretty reckless at hiding things. The gun shop called his house about gun clips being in, and his dad answered but somehow thought not much of it.
He also kept alot of bomb making stuff right in plain view, or not very hidden at all in his room.
Dylan was putting his gun in his bag to go shooting and his parents saw, to which he said it was his BB gun, and they believed it.

The closest call, had to be when Brooks parents contacted police and had a search warrant typed up over Eric threatening to kill him on his website, which eventually never went anywhere.
We can assume if they went through with it, Columbine most likely would of never happened.

I have to say though that their trust in each other is fascinating – or stupid.

One slip from either of them could have fucked it all up for each other. If Eric gets caught, Dylan is fucked too.

I wonder what Dylan thought after Eric told him about the phone call from the gunshot. What if Wayne gets suspicious and search Eric’s room? For example.

Or maybe they were just naïve and got lucky in the end. Because it was some close calls.

They weren't stupid about it, but they were pretty fucking lucky. Their getting away with it pretty much depended on Jeffco being a pile of shit.

Eric deeply enjoyed the feeling of knowing he was going to do this and keeping everyone else in the dark. It gave him the feeling of superiority that as a psychopath he craved. This is one of the reasons psychopaths lie--it gives them a feeling of power over others, which is gratifying to them. Eric loved lying to everyone--he couldn't get enough of it.

And Dylan didn't? He was an even better liar than Eric.

They were both equally good, but Eric talks obsessively about all the pleasure he takes in lying. Dylan does not.
