Someone just posted this on my Facebook (personally I love it that whenever anyone sees anything that references shooting up schools or mass murderers, they share it with me--is that terrible?):

The 15-year-old Queens girl was charged with making terroristic threats and her case was referred to Family Court. Her arrest Sunday night was triggered by police in Freehold Township, N.J., where several anonymous callers directed investigators to her Facebook page. It was adorned with a picture of Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, who killed 13 fellow students and wounded over 20 others at Columbine High School in 1999.

Last spring, shortly before school let out for summer holiday, some kid made threats at my old high school.
Not only that but when I was in Grade 9 (one year after Columbine) someone scribbled something threatening on the bathroom wall and everyone thought it was me.

What I really like seeing is "Teen arrested for talking about or planning school shooting" rather than seeing "20 dead in Columbine style school shooting". Columbine raised so much awareness to school shootings and now when someone sees or hears something they don't take a chance, which has saved so many lives. There was a kid at my friends kids school in Vegas, who brought a gun to school (In one of the better parts of Vegas) another kid saw the gun in the kids backpack, called the cops and the kid with the gun was arrested in his class. The 12 year old kid had the gun on him and nothing happened because that other kid was like "fuck all that shit" didn't take any chances and called the cops. Back in the day people would feel like they were over reacting and not do anything. Then BOOM Columbine happens "we didn't take them seriously" I'm glad now people do, because we are seeing a lot more possible shootings stopped than ever before. There's also the fact that kids are being stupid and bragging about it prior to doing it so, keep up the good work kids!

A little OT but I can identify with this too. We had several threats at my high school as well, even pre-columbine. They were taken pretty seriously as school shootings were on the rise by the time I was a freshman.
After columbine happened it got a little ridiculous, where all the outcasts or anyone who appeared "troubled" faced repercussions. Kids would lie and accuse the outcasts and freaky kids of plotting shootings, the lunch tables where the outcast kids sat were monitored by administrators, anytime a kid (particularly an unpopular one) did anything someone considered as unusual or "potentially violent" (all you really had to do was say "fuck you" to someone who was harassing you) they were taken to the office and questioned, sometimes in groups. A couple kids were expelled for making threats and we had lockdown drills. I personally had an experience walking down the hall and 3 popular girls were walking in my direction from the opposite side, and they started saying "trench coat mafia" at me and one said "don't piss her off she'll shoot you". It was just BS. And I went to a regular ol' public school too.

And of course they don't investigate why the kid wanted to shoot up that school. Again, like I said in another thread, expel the bullies.

I shaped my hand like a gun and pointed it at them after they said it just kinda going along with it, and they all looked at me shocked which was amusing enough for me. Oddly enough at the time I wasn't that offended by it. Its looking back on it now that had me thinking "man that was kinda fucked up".
I handled harassment by playing along or acting like it didn't get to me. The only people I got into physical fights with were people I had been friends with first that I had bad falling outs with.

Lol I'm sorry but that funny! I got bullied so bad at school and I wore all black and even had a long black coat for a while, so I got my fair share of people using me as a scapegoat. I was the most nonviolent person but hate and anger builds up, teachers hated me too cause I was a pain in the ass. I ended up quitting school cause I got shit on peers and teachers. The bullies actually started being genuinely scared or at least worried about the "freaks" for a while after columbine so there were so many threats reported. We even had a bomb threat called in a few times, it was crazy. Bottom line though is, I'd rather people be over cautious and prevent a shooting than not saying anything at all. School shootings are so common now, we should take every threat seriously.

What I like is that SEVERAL people reported her posts to the police. Now she gets a very hard lesson in the power of words.

Exactly what I'm saying. Taking every threat seriously is very necessary to prevent something tragic from happening. Even if she was joking, first its not something to joke about and second now she learned never to say something stupid like that again.

Yeah. Some of the teachers even joined in to chide me. 'Code Red!' my history teacher would say whenever I walked past, holding two fingers in a cross.
I gotta say though, even with all that unpleasantness, it IS better to take precautions. I say this even though my brother got expelled for making a sick joke exactly ONE WEEK after Columbine. He handed in an assignment, and drew a little cartoon character on it that said, 'I better get a good mark on this, because I have my trenchcoat ready' or something along those lines. It sounds twisted as fuck, I know. But my brother is just a joker. With a morbid sense of humour. Same with me. But it's better that than headlines of '20 kids dead in school shoot-out'. Absolutely.

I'd say that it was "too soon" for your brothers joke, but honestly it will always be too soon. Nonetheless, that's pretty funny though lol. Its great to be seeing so many kids caught before they do something stupid. A lot of the well known school shooters that are in jail have openly talked about how absolutely stupid it was and they want to do something to stop it.
