A couple things that annoy me about it

1. I hate when people say "___ innocent people". Like how do you know? Sure, they might not have done anything directly to the shooters, but no one is innocent. And even then, can we really prove they didn't play a part in pushing them?

2. It also irritates me how people act like Columbine was the "original" school shooting and they were the ones who "invented" it, for lack of better words. They compared what they would do to Kip Kinkel and Paducah and others. Sure, they may have killed more people and in a more well-known area, but even they got the idea from somewhere else.

Yeah, I agree. There's so many things that we don't know, some of those kids could have very well done something to piss the boys off and maybe they didn't. But you're right, people shouldn't say "innocent people" when they really have no idea.

That also bothers me!! People always seem to think that Columbine and only Columbine is the root to almost all gun violence that had been documented after the incident, but there were so many fucked up things happening with guns even before columbine. And exactly, Eric and Dylan did compare their plans to others, people just don't do their research i guess haha

yeah , mainstream media does that , they control 80 % of the people i would say .

the rest 20 % are the people that read , historical facts mainly .

im including the people who reads fiction in the 80 % ( fiction is for movies ) .

Things that annoy me- People that think bullying had anything to do with the massacre. Maybe it did in a small way but this was not a reaction to bullying at all.

And yes it was not the first shooting by a long shot but it did happen at an odd time in an upstanding community. Charles Whitman was one of the first that I can recall

2) They didn't invent mass shooting yes, but they were the first of its kind where it got popular and glamourised because of the context of Columbine; teen angst, suburban life, relatability, duo suicide. Alot of musical and film artists have Columbine to thank for.

1) okay, the victims probably weren't innocent individuals but innocent in contrast to that they weren't the ones killing their fellow peers.

I think 'defenceless' is perhaps a better term to describe the victims.

I agree no-one is perfect and purely innocent. Maybe they did not do anything bad to Eric and Dylan, they just symbolized something the two shooters were really angry about. (E.g. I remember they imitated some of the most religious "good girls" on the Basement Tapes. And the very religious Rachel Scott became the most famous victim, if I remember well...)

Bullying - yes, it annoys the crap out of me that those oh-so-clever adults blame bullying. We do know that - though Eric and Dylan did experience a certain kind of bullying and outsider status, they were not so absolutely outcasts.

Another thing - that provokes anger in me - is that even police experts think that these two boys were from "harmonic" and "okay" families. Hell no! The fact that they did not live in deep poverty and none of their parents had alcohol or drug issues does not necessarily mean that E&D should be envied for their backgrounds. We know that there were certain serious problems in both families.
