Subject: Kyle Velasquez Sun May 14, 2017 3:51 am
Born May 5, 1982 When Kyle was just a baby he suffered a stroke that left him mentally disabled and he also had severe asthma. As a "special needs" child, Kyle was often ignored, avoided, and teased while growing up -- he knew what it was like to be an outcast. Due to his disabilities, Kyle's parents had prepared to spend the rest of their lives with him. He would accompany his mother everywhere while she ran her errands. Kyle's last words to her were: "Goodbye. I love you, mom." [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Kyle's death is among the saddest for me. There were conflicting reports some saying he hadn't even tried to hide, while others said he did. Either way, just knowing he was probably very confused, scared, and likely didn't understand what was happening breaks my heart.

Agreed. All the victims were innocent, but in my opinion Kyle was at the top of that list.

If there was a boy in the library that day with a valid reason to be bitter about his place in life it was Kyle Velasquez, not Eric or Dylan. But Kyle wasn't bitter. He struggled with adversity the shooters could never have fathomed and yet he faced life with a loving smile and enjoyed being of help, selfless. Dylan, a boy with infinitely more opportunities for fulfillment in his own life instead faced Kyle down double barrels and selfishly used him as a prop in a puerile revenge narrative that only he and Eric were viewing. I wish Kyle was discussed more, especially how differently he faced the very real challenges in his life compared to how the shooters chose to deal with their mere teenage angst. RIP Kyle.

I’m not going to diminish Eric and Dylan’s problems. Because we don’t know what was going on behind closed doors. Depression is a real thing, mental illness is a real thing.
Someone with schizophrenia is going through their own issues but it doesn’t mean that they are better off than somebody who is paralyzed. It’s not a competition

He was in the cafeteria when the shooting started. Instead of fleeing the school during all the commotion, he went to the library instead. He probably didnt understand what was going on.

I wish we had more stories of Kyle...
I feel that he is the least talked about and it's so sad.

One of the victims along with Isiah that I feel bad for. They were more of outcasts than E&D. I wish Eric and Dylan targeted a football team in a locker room instead of these poor library kids.

To Eric and Dylan, it didn’t really matter how high on the social totem pole you were. Everyone was the enemy.
