Kyle Kashuv questioned by School After Visit to Gun range with his dad.

Kyle Kashuv, a student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School who survived the massacre that took place on February 14th, went to a gun range with his father on Friday to learn how to handle a firearm. He posted several videos from the trip and, soon after, Kashuv was contacted by the principal.

“My dad was there and I shot with an AR-15,” said Kashuv, according to a report by the Daily Wire. “After, I posted a few pictures and videos.”

Multiple students from the Parkland high school called Kashuv out for going to the gun range. The principal also spoke with him, saying that his posts upset other students.

Later in the day, Kashuv was called to speak with the “armed school resource officer.”

According to Kashuv, “Near the end of third period, my teacher got a call from the office saying I need to go down and see a Mr. Greenleaf. I didn’t know Mr. Greenleaf, but it turned out that he was an armed school resource officer. I went down and found him, and he escorted me to his office.”

“Then,” he continued, “a second security officer walked in and sat behind me. Both began questioning me intensely. First, they began berating my tweet, although neither of them had read it; then they began aggressively asking questions about who I went to the range with, whose gun we used, about my father, etc. They were incredibly condescending and rude.”

“Then a third officer from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office walked in, and began asking me the same questions again,” said Kashuv. “At that point, I asked whether I could record the interview. They said no. I asked if I had done anything wrong. Again, they answered no. I asked why I was there. One said, ‘Don’t get snappy with me, do you not remember what happened here a few months ago?’”

“They continued to question me aggressively, though they could cite nothing I had done wrong,” Kashuv added. “They kept calling me “the pro-Second Amendment kid.” I was shocked and honestly, scared. It definitely felt like they were attempting to intimidate me.”

“I was treated like a criminal for no reason other than having gone to the gun range and posted on social media about it.”

Many on social media called the actions of the school and Broward County Sheriff’s Office into question, referring to the incident as “insane,” “outrageous,” and “unbelievable,” particularly as Kashuv “did nothing wrong” by going to the gun range.






Complete and total bullshit!   He did absolutely NOTHING wrong. Other then not jumping on the Gun Control bandwagon, and not wanting to vote away his rights and those of countless others.

I’m pretty sure Lance Kirklin still goes shooting with his dad from what I’ve read.

Evan Todd even said that he didn't agree with the March for Our Lives cause when he was asked about it in that very awkward interview where they kept calling him "Eric".

basically i have depression anxiety adhd aspergers

No, the kid is an activist. This was clearly part of his activism. The school had no right to treat him like a criminal because it was obvious that he didn't technically do anything wrong but I understand why they were upset. He said that he had never touched a gun before and it's clear why he did this and why he posted about it on social media. This was insensitive and I wouldn't be surprised if he was purposely trying to provoke backlash to promote himself even further. People in his community were murdered only a few months ago. He has no more tact than the anti-gun activists.

He's an activist because he has been engaging in activism. Check out his Twitter account and you will see a photo of Kyle sitting with the president. He has spoken to the media and appeared on news programs to support second amendment rights and to promote alternative strategies for preventing mass shootings. He has over 200,000 followers on Twitter and it is for no reason other than his public support for second amendment rights. His Twitter posts about his trip to the gun range included references to the second amendment and the Constitution. That part is undeniable. The rest is my opinion.

There is nothing wrong with shooting targets. He should not have been interrogated. He did not break any laws. My objections are not political. It is my opinion that this behavior showed a lack of respect for his murdered classmates and a lack of compassion for survivors and families affected by the shooting. He posed with the same gun that his classmates were shot to death with very recently and he did it simply to make a point. I (kind of) understand what his point was supposed to be and he has every right to express his point of view but I think that going as far as posting a video of himself shooting an AR-15 was an unnecessary move and did nothing to help make that point. I believe that it was probably an attempt to antagonize people more than anything else. You could argue that he was trying to show that guns, even AR-15s, are widely used in a responsible manner but how many people learn to shoot for the first time with an AR-15?

In any case, you can see that this wasn't just a kid trying to spend a day at a gun range with his dad if you take the context into consideration.
